Attention to all port enthusiasts! 🛳️⚓ There is an opening date for Portlantis – the new exhibition space and visitor centre for the Port of Rotterdam – which opens its doors to the public on March 22! Located at the port’s western-most point, on the artificially reclaimed sands of the Maasvlakte 2, our design of this twisting five-storey stack of spaces will give spectacular views while educating visitors about the port’s function and evolution during one of its most important transitions – the shift to sustainable, low-energy operations. “This building is not a closed box like the many distribution and data centres in the area,” says Winy Maas. “It is a twisted box of five layers, with each layer featuring a panoramic window offering a new perspective on the port area. Thanks to the rotation, each floor has terraces accessible via external staircases, allowing visitors to take a three-dimensional walk around the building. The themes of each floor reflect the past, present, and future of the Port of Rotterdam.
