The marketing term “positioning” refers to the position or place your brand occupies in a customer’s mind. And every brand, including yours, has a position, whether you know it or not. So instead of leaving it to chance, what you want to do is “choose” that position, because it determines if a customer will buy from you or someone else. So how do you figure out your brand position? You do it by 1. being very clear on what it is you are selling; 2. knowing exactly whom you want to serve; 3. figuring out what makes you REALLY different from everyone else (what you stand for; what you want to be known for) And, most importantly, you want to do all this before you make or launch your product if you are to truly succeed in the marketplace.
