#PortHillsFire has only fuelled our determination to present a better solution for fire emergency response 🔥🚒 > 650+ hectares burned > 1 house destroyed > One hundred firefighters, 20 support personnel, 15 helicopters, 2 fixed-wing aircraft, and heavy machinery were actively involved in firefighting efforts >Manned helicopters for aerial suppression costing $1.6 million >Estimated cost of "millions" for the fire response Firefighters have done an amazing job especially when considering how underfunded and under-resourced they are. Fairfax Media released that the current plan is to "increase fire breaks, planting natives and building more ponds". While there will be merit in this approach, a more effective strategy needs to involve emphasis on how we can leverage technology for a more efficient response. This is prediction, early detection, and unmanned aerial suppression. Quicker response = Less damage + Less land burnt + A safer community + Less reliance on insurance levies #QuickerResponse #LessDamage #SaferCommunity #FirePrevention #SmartTechnology #CommunitySafety #WildfireTechnology #FirefighterSafety #InnovateToMitigate
More than $1.6 million spent on Port Hills fire - just on helicopters

New month, new calendar motif #160yearsMagirus: Extraordinary operations require extraordinary solutions. At #Magirus we also developed firefighting vehicles surpassing the limits of everyday use while offering maximum performance. For example, the first vehicle with crane, which was developed in 1957 when previous vehicles had reached their limits in terms of reach and lifting capacity. Or the Magirus #MultiStar which is a unique combination of telescopic boom lift with rescue cage and tank pumper or rescue vehicle. The #FireBull is also unique. It's a tracked fire engine that comes with our efficient AirCore extinguishing technology, a flexible superstructure and a PowerBully all-terrain chassis which makes it a fully developed solution for optimum use in vegetation fires. These are just a few examples of how Magirus has always been ahead of time!

Bird strikes, while rare, do occur during normal flight operations. According to the FAA, 60% of strikes happen during takeoff or landing. We’ve long advocated for reducing the number and severity of bird strikes, not only to prevent an accident, but because we also care about keeping our fellow feathered airspace users safe! Read more about how our pilots work to mitigate bird strikes to keep both airliners and wildlife safe: https://bit.ly/3xthK0k #NationalWildlifeWeek #Wildlife #Aviation #AviationSafety

Sage advice
#CALFIRE and our cooperators strongly discourage anyone from flying a #UAS (Uncrewed Aircraft Systems) in or near a wildland fire. Flying a drone near a wildfire can be extremely dangerous to pilots and aircraft in the immediate area. Valuable firefighting aircraft can be grounded due to these actions, impeding the chance to quickly extinguish a fire. On the #LineFire, there have been 2 separate drone incursions into the fire area. These actions not only endanger lives but can carry severe penalties for the individuals responsible. Always remember, if you fly, we can’t. Conair Aerial Firefighting takes aerial #firefighting safety to new heights with an innovative training program. #Pilots navigating the demanding challenges of wildfire missions now benefit from the Mission Training System (MTS), a revolutionary platform providing realistic simulations. The MTS replicates forest fire conditions and involves interconnected flight training devices, allowing pilots to train collectively in dynamic scenarios. Beyond #simulation, Conair's commitment is reflected in extensive annual training covering safety procedures, firefighting techniques, and insights from past seasons, ensuring pilots are well-prepared for the unpredictable #nature of their missions.
