Culture change what is it and how do you define it, that’s the big question. Still so much to do to achieve this. Had a number of conversations today about values, behaviours, culture change, action and inaction, confidence, trust and whether safe outcomes will be achieved. What a joke these two money making organisations are !!! We still have trades people comming to site with labourers cards and companies are allowing this. This will only get worse after December when the IA is no longer recognised. Yet experienced managers and trades people are being driven out of the industry by their refusal to recognise The industry acreditation which we had for 30 years. The CSCS test focuses on safety only, not how competant or experienced a person is. No barriers should be put in place to prevent people from taking this test. I am sure both organisations are aware of my recent posts on LinkedIn and the strength of feeling against them. They need to listen to the people they are supposed to represent. Safety is important in any industry. Stop forcing people into taking costly and time consuming NVQs. !!

In 2020, I delved into Thomas Krause and Kristen Bell's book on safety leadership and #precursors of SIFs. This enlightening read changed my view on how to preventing serious incidents. Today (a few years later), I’ve been exposed to this paper, thanks to Colum Stewart. The study challenges common sense and underscores the significance of #WorkPlanning and #SIF_Critical_Controls in averting SIFs. It also states that Human Factors are less associated with the occurence of SIFs. Of course! People are not the problem, they are the solution! This is only one article - but the highlights are breathtaking. #Grenfell #lessons Clarity of accountability is a powerful tool to optimise management of risk - the complexity and lack of accountability in this case is shocking. Once again #culture #leadership and #riskmangement appear to have failed. What is the tone at the top of your organisation? Equally shocking are the seven years and £170m it took to complete the work. I hope there are consequences where appropriate and changes are made.

Important advice from FIS regarding ISG FIS will circulate this guidance as soon as it is available, but in the meantime, we refer members to the key points from our update on Thursday: When you are able to access site (do adhere to timings provided) recover any plant, site accommodation and any records that are currently on the sites. You should avoid at all costs any damage to your completed works. Take photographic, video and written records of your work in progress. Accurate and detailed records will be invaluable in establishing the value of your “final account” and can be used for any negotiations with main contractor who is brought in to complete the contract. You should prepare a schedule that shows a record of all outstanding payments including retentions and when these payments were due If you’re currently in possession of materials that are required for the contract but have not been delivered to the site then make careful note of these.
