🌟 For student parents like me, collaboration is a necessity for closing the education and racial equity gaps. 52% of student parents stopout of higher education, with an alarming 72% stopout rate for Black fathers. Most student parents are BIPOC and single mothers, highlighting the intersectionality of this crisis. 📊💔 Through collaboration, we can break down barriers, share resources, and advocate for policies that support our dual roles as students and parents. It's a lifeline that connects us with a community that understands our journey and is passionate about making a difference. 💪👨🎓👩🍼 Together, we can shatter stereotypes, achieve our dreams, and create a more equitable future for all student parents, regardless of background. 💫💞 It's time for change, and it starts with us. Let's collaborate, innovate, and transform the landscape of higher education. 🌍✨ #collaboration #studentparents #educationequity #racialequity #closingthegap #SPARKCollaborative SPARK Collaborative Child Trends Center for WorkLife Law | UC Law San Francisco Nina Owolabi Theresa Anderson Jessica Lee Renee Ryberg Kimberly Salazar Kate Westaby Cordero Holmes, CNP Letty Mejia Denise Mendez Kateri Klingele, APSW Rebecca Schreiber Shalease Williams
The SPARK Collaborative is driven by 8 core values. Today, we highlight COLLABORATION! We want to promote meaningful cross-organizational communication and collaboration on shared efforts. This means not reinventing the wheel, working together to grow the pie, and sharing insights and efforts in real time. SPARK itself is a collaborative effort stewarded by the Urban Institute, the Pregnant Scholar Center for WorkLife Law | UC Law San Francisco, and Child Trends. We have two Skill and Training in Action Research Fellows - Nina Owolabi and Krystle P.. And we're opening up more opportunities for the big tent flaps to open for YOU to join the party! What does collaboration mean to you?

The word “community” has two definitions: 1️⃣ A group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common 2️⃣ A feeling of fellowship with others as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals What are ways community association managers bring both definitions to life for their communities and boards? 👇 #GetInCINC #RedefineCommunity

This is the second of five updates I will be posting as part of my Equal Justice America Summer Fellowship. In this update, I’d like to share some of the practical skills I’ve developed over the course of my internship so far and encourage other law students to work in housing law at a legal aid organization. In Massachusetts and many other states, eviction cases are litigated through a procedure called summary process. This procedure tweaks and further standardizes the litigation process to expedite resolution of cases, while attempting to preserve parties’ due process rights. For better or worse, this means that eviction cases move very quickly through the legal system. It also means that as an intern working in housing, I often get to follow and participate in every step of a case, from client intake, to the initial complaint or answer, to the eventual settlement or trial. In general, it is rare to see a case’s entire lifespan within the course of a 10 week internship, but in housing law it is common. As a law student, it has been enlightening to observe how attorneys function at each step in the litigation process and how goals and priorities change over time. I have also had the chance to assist attorneys with each step, performing client intake, and helping to write complaints, answers, and settlement agreements. Furthermore, I have been able to help attorneys with research questions that they haven’t been able to prioritize over their ongoing cases. Even in just five weeks, I feel like I’ve gotten more hands-on experience than I would have at many other internships because of the fast-paced nature of housing work and the hands-on guidance that I have received from the attorneys at MetroWest Legal Services. #EJAFellowUpdate Donate to EJA here: https://lnkd.in/eChrH7V7

Join powerful, like-minded educators who are committed to great child-centered teaching practice. Learn, share, be bold, and grow in a City Neighbors Community of Practice. City Neighbors Foundation is excited to launch our seventh City Neighbors Community of Practice - an effort to build communities of practitioners striving toward a truly child-centered, democratic ideal of education. Bridging The Gap Facilitator: Michelle Tavares How can general and special educators can purposefully and in partnership work together toward student success. Teachers and case managers are often plagued with questions that don't always get answered. Who's responsible for what? When do I provide that service and why? We will collaborate to answer all of the "W" questions (who, what, when, where, and why) that often cause barriers between the two roles - and find pathways to build the partnerships, clarity, and structures that support general educators and special educators and, ultimately, our students. The Pawsitive Change mission is to help our Student Trainers develop the skills and mindset needed to return home and lead fulfilling lives. The California penal system is often characterized by racial segregation that creates divisions that hinder personal growth and rehabilitation. The Pawsitive Change program fosters an environment where students from diverse backgrounds work together, learn from one another and grow collectively. #prisonreform #vocationaeducation #reentry #jobskills
