William Blair’s recent survey pointed out something we're probably all feeling—people are getting tired of the rising costs of eating out. Higher menu prices, fees, and tips are pushing more guests to the drive-thru to avoid extra costs. And when it comes to digital ordering, we’re seeing more folks, especially under 60, getting comfortable with QR codes and kiosks, though many still prefer physical menus. One last thing worth mentioning: brand loyalty programs are gaining traction. 55% of people now say they’re using them, and for 41%, these programs actually influence where they eat. Loyalty seems to be making a real impact on dining decisions. Anyone else seeing these trends play out in your own restaurant habits?

I am seeing posts by National Restaurant Association touting a $1 trillion trend line for Restaurant industry sales. While that's impressive for an industry, it's worth further evaluation to identify what that means to the estimated 905,000 restaurants in the US. That $1,000,000,000,000 in sales represents an AUV of $1.1MM. At that sales volume let's assume you are managing to a 55% prime cost (or lower), your SG&A are all in line with industry benchmarks and you're seeing a drop through of around 4%. This translates into around $45,000. $1 Trillion Sales is great. 905,000 restaurants is not great for the industry. The National Restaurant Association predicts that sales in the restaurant industry will reach a historic milestone in 2024, with projected revenues of $1.1 trillion 😲 . This marks the first time the industry has exceeded the $1 trillion mark and represents a 10% rise from the forecasted figures for 2023. The main reason for this being the massive amounts of data restaurants can now gather and action. This is also why more and more brands are turning to loyalty providers like Spendgo to gather data on their most valuable asset, their customer; and in return enhancing that customers experience with the brand. https://lnkd.in/gZusyDWU
