Last month, the Satellite Industry Association (SIA) released its annual State of the Satellite Industry Report on the satellite industry’s economic performance. According to the report, 2023 was a banner year for satellite services, even while some are concerned that EO is floundering. While recent layoffs in the EO industry have many concerned about its long-term health and stability, demand from new industries and revolutionary technologies have EO poised for rapid growth. In this recent article from #Constellations, explore more about the potential of the EO industry in the coming years. https://lnkd.in/e7Z38DZ6 #EO #satellite #space

I had just published this Analysys Mason article on the small GEO satellites manufacturing market when Astranis Space Technologies revealed their recent USD200 million funding round. This round is adding another layer to the dynamics and shifting demand in GEO satcom markets. As was seen by recent news from Airbus Defence and Space, building GEO with all kinds of bell and whistles is not easy. But packing high performance payloads into smaller form factors seems appealing for many satellite manufacturers going forward. 🔍 Key insights : - Small GEO orders will grow among the overall GEO orders. These are still few and far in-between but will remain a good part of the market revenues. - Shorter order-to-launch manufacturing timelines are the ‘new normal’. - New #launchers will help drive the business cases for operators of small GEOs. - Satellite operators' small GEO business cases will likely depend on how they can address new and expanding markets, such as government and military customers and regional operators. Bottom line: Satellite manufacturers seeking market growth and new opportunities will enhance their value proposition with small GEOs. #Satellite #GEO #SmallGEO Dallas Kasaboski Dafni Christodoulopoulou Lockheed Martin Space Terran Orbital Corporation OHB SE SWISSto12

Space Situational Awareness, a market with huge potential, but falling short. #SSA has several advantages over other satellite/space services, namely: - generally lower CAPEX (for ground stations/software, compared to #satellites) - an established market (competitive, but services exist right now) - a growing risk point to growing demand (30,000 sats to launch in 10 years) Despite all this, despite seemingly lower barriers to entry and a high potential for demand, SSA is forecast to only capture 35% of its serviceable addressable market. Outside of some important, but specific, govmil programmes depositing money into the industry, it is not expected to grow as operators remain skeptical or frugal. This paper investigates the feasibility of connecting space missions to #satelliteinternet providers (SIPs) like STARLINK, Eutelsat OneWeb, and O3B NETWORKS mPOWER. The key findings are: #earthobservation missions are likely the best candidates to benefit from SIP connectivity due to their need to transfer large amounts of data quickly. Commercially available satellite terminals have great potential to be integrated into space mission satellites after some modifications for the space environment. Among the studied SIPs, #O3b #mPOWER stands out as the most suitable system allowing permanent coverage of low earth orbit space missions with data rates up to 21 Mbps. From a #regulatory perspective, the current spectrum usage policy under the #ITU regime does not allow interference-free operations for the proposed concept. However, potential changes during the 2023 @World Radiocommunication Conference #WRC23 could enable satellite-to-satellite links between SIPs and space missions. The concept of connecting space missions through SIPs is practically feasible in the near future but requires solving some regulatory aspects regarding radio frequency usage for full exploitation. In summary, the paper provides a comprehensive feasibility analysis covering technical aspects like coverage, link budgets, terminal integration as well as investigating the crucial legal and regulatory challenges that need to be addressed.

🚀 Exciting News for Poland's Space Tech Sector! 🌍 Poland is set to enhance its earth observation capabilities with two new satellite constellations. The civilian Camila mission, launching in 2027, will include at least four high-resolution satellites managed by the European Space Agency. This initiative aims to boost local expertise by involving Polish companies in designing, building, and managing the satellites. Additionally, a defense-focused constellation will launch in 2028, funded by a €300 million loan from the European Investment Bank. While the defense project, managed by Airbus, aims to ensure national security, its impact on local industry is less clear. Our COO, Mikołaj Podgórski emphasized the need for government-oriented projects to support local industry, saying, “What we see in the US and the rest of Europe is that you need to have government oriented projects that will support the local industry and give companies a way to grow and develop new products,” he said. “We’ve not had a nationally focused activity of this kind before, so this is a good start.” These projects mark significant steps in strengthening Poland's position in the global space industry and ensuring our sovereignty in earth observation. 🌟 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eVTt-y6G #PolishSpace #NewProjects #space #satellite
