That was over six years ago. I wanted to watch it again, so I am reviewing, revising, and updating my original reviews.

Just listened to a very insightful podcast chat between Aidan Campbell of 2C Media Inc. and Aislinn Grant about her journey to creating her design company Grant. Very honest conversation about her hard-earned ‘in the trenches’ insights. One particular nugget that stood out for me. QUESTION (Aidan) What do you do when you hit the wall creatively? How do you find the spark? ANSWER (Aislinn) Go analog. Close the laptop (I.e. put away the screens) and: - go to a book store - or antique store - or find a piece of architecture nearby and take in the detail Doesn’t take long to reignite Here are some other ideas for reengaging your spark: - have coffee with a friend - go for a walk outside - alone or with a friend - go to a performance - professional or amateur - take in an art exhibit - professional or amateur Find a stimulus in the physical world that is ‘perpendicular’ to your daily rhythm. A powerful call to action for the #cinema (and film) industry to build (a data-driven) relationship with their audience by the brilliant Marina Kosten. My takeaways: 1. Cinema is the USP of the film industry. Without it there is no point of differentiation, no more urgency, no CTA powerful enough to cut through - leaving everything to become lost in the great content ocean 2. Because of this we are evidently all reliant and invested on cinema succeeding 3. But the utility of the cinema experience is not working for the vast majority of the population (Marina talks about the US but my guess is the trends apply in most territories) and, outliers aside, only a core audience are visiting the cinema 4. We need to re-condition consumers to the cinema experience through a radical re-imagining of what that means (e.g. think how Uber became a verb for getting a taxi - what could the verb for going to the cinema be?) 5. And this means building a cross-industry coalition (yes, collaboration!) for audience development, underpinned by a first party data strategy. This is no easy task but is it a vital one for the future of the industry?
