Natasha's walkthrough of what evaluation is currently limited by and the opportunity at hand to expand what we know and can learn from our partners is so refreshing. We are grappling with the same wave of not just evidence building but sharing and improving our understanding of what large sums of qualitative evidence could mean- will AI algorithms reduce these to counts of repeated words and phrases? will we do justice to the time spent and invested by our partners in sharing what is relevant to them? will these narratives shift our understanding and more importantly our giving?

Natasha Joshi represented Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies at the Skoll Foundation's #SkollWorldForum discussing the complex but critical topic of measuring systems change. Natasha made a powerful point that resonated with me: When it comes to measuring progress, data is important, but it's not the whole picture. She noted, "Data is information a computer can understand... But there is information that humans can understand, and it doesn't necessarily need to be only data. And that's where our meaning-making comes in because we have ways of perceiving and sensing many different things." At RNP, we recognise that to truly understand the impact, we need a rainbow of lenses to see the work rather than monochromatic filters that reflect real transformation happening on the ground with our partners and communities. We must expand our aperture to pick up on all these signals. As Natasha said in her closing, "...what we really want is a higher resolution."
