🚨 The Madness Continues… Imagine training your whole life, only to have your dreams crushed by someone who doesn’t belong in your race. 🏃♀️ Valentina Petrillo, an Italian sprinter, is making headlines at the Paralympics. But here's the kicker: until recently, Valentina competed as a man. Yes, you read that right—and quite successfully, by all accounts. Indeed, if my eyes aren't deceiving me, Valentina remains perfectly well intact in the tackle department. He recently told an interviewer that competing in the Olympics has been a dream since he was a "little girl." 🤯 Let that sink in… This is the same person who married a woman and fathered two children. Now, two things need to be said: 1️⃣ This individual needs help. We should offer support, but not at the expense of fairness. Competing against women in this way is not just wrong on all levels. I detest this individual for even thinking his actions are acceptable. 🤢 2️⃣ The sporting governing bodies are failing women. They have been ideologically captured, abandoning the principles of fairness and competition. For the love of sport, women, stand up and raise your voices! 🗣️ Join Martina, Sharon, and J.K. Rowling—the brave women calling out this insanity. 🛑 Together, you can stop these disgraceful men from ruining your sport. Stand up. Speak out. Take action. 💪 Women’s sports deserve better. #FairPlay #SaveWomensSports #StandUp

Everything heroic about the 2024 Olympics was delivered by women athletes. - Boxing gold medals in defiance of gender stereotypes - Gymnastic comeback queens - Bad-ass breakdancers - activists and artists - A sister-act of gold in the canoe And yet global sports advertising revenue and airtime tells us that athleticism, talent and skill of men is more valuable than women. The global sports industry is worth a staggering $403 Billion. Women's sport earns less than 1% of that amount - a disparity that perpetuates gender gaps in athlete pay and infrastructure resourcing. It’s easy to change all that. Step 1. Increase numbers of women in sports decision making & media; Step 2. Foster inter-sport collaboration between women. Advocate together; Step 3. Identify, cultivate and support men who share power with women; Step 4. Conduct gender audits of all sports - including revenue streams; Step 5. Set gender targets for all sports - including revenue streams. Time to stop short changing our sheroes. #makingequalityeasy #genderlensaustralia #womeninsports #parisolympic #australianwomen #olympics2024 #paris2024 #femaleathletes #womeninboxing #gymnastics #breakdancing #womensport #equalpay #genderequality #womeninleadership #raygun #jessfox #AussieOlympians

🌟 Paris 2024 Olympics: A New Era for Women and Mamas 🌟 Opening LinkedIn and seeing Jingjin's post brought the biggest smile to my face..... For the first time in Olympic history, there are an equal number of female and male athletes! And it gets better: breastfeeding athletes now have dedicated spaces, and mother athletes have access to a nursery. This change, thanks to trailblazers like Alex Felix (the women who left Nike after the brand proposed a 70% pay cut while pregnant, and went on to campaign for female athletes - its an amazing story. Google her.) enables women to pursue their Olympic dreams without compromising their roles as mamas or their child's care. Growing up, athletics, netball, and gymnastics were my world. The Sydney Olympics coincided with my GCSE PE coursework, so of course my project was dedicated to it, and that sparked my love for the games. Attending the London Olympics in 2012 with my mum was magical and a dream come true, but it was also first time women competed in every sport. This year is even more special – watching the opening ceremony with my 2-year-old, seeing his eyes light up with wonder, and I know he is seeing just as many amazing female athletes as role models, as he is male. Every little girl and every little boy deserves to see strong women like these. Consider this: in 1900, only 22 women competed in the Olympics, just 2.2% of the athletes. By 2016, that number had grown to 45%, and now, in 2024, we’ve reached full parity. When I watched athletes like Cathy Freeman and Nadia Comaneci, I saw a different future in their strength pushing the boundaries. Now, my son sees a world where women stand equal to men, where mama athletes can chase their dreams without sacrificing family. This is the legacy we’re building – a world where we don’t have to choose between our dreams and our families. The world is changing, and we’re leading this transformation. I’m here for it, all of it! Are you? #Paris2024Olympics #GenderEquality #MamaAthletes #Matrescence #SportsAndMotherhood #DoingItDifferently

This Olympics feels different, and I am here for the feel-good content and visible support for the athletes. When we support women instead of cutting them down, the game changes. We meet our potential and become unstoppable forces in this world. Sports have always had a direct effect on society, from supporting vulnerable groups to building confidence and creating opportunities for youth. We are living change right now, and dang, girls! You are killing it! Even if you are not a sports fan, there is something electric about what's happening right now. When you have an opportunity to lift a girl up, take it. There is enough success for all of us, and the visible support is undeniable: -Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles bowing down to Rebecca Andrade on the first ever all black women podium in Olympic gymnastics history. -Allyson Felix launching a nursery for athlete mothers and marathon runner -Aliphine Tuliamuk and judoka Clarisse Agbégnénou advocating for breastfeeding space. -U.S. women's soccer coach Emma Hayes walking with her arm around Japan's Maika after a hard-fought loss. -Rugby player Ilona Maher inspiring young girls to love their bodies. -Katie Ledecky sharing the podium with her teammate Paige Madden. -Sha'Carri Richardson hugging Julien Alfred after losing the 100m race and celebrating her silver medal with her teammate who won bronze. -Adele stopping a concert to watch the women's 100m race. -Shannon Miller jumping for joy when Simone Biles broke her medal record. -Michele Kang contributing $4 million to the US Women's Rugby team. -Flavor Flav helping out the women's water polo team because he's a "girl dad." For too long, men’s sports have overshadowed the remarkable achievements in women’s sports. In fact, a recent survey by The Female Quotient reveals that 62% of U.S. adults are captivated by men’s professional sports, while only 39% share the same enthusiasm for women’s sports. However, the Olympics once again proves to be a great equalizer, with interest in men’s Olympic sports (53%) nearly matching that in women’s (51%). Let’s celebrate all women in sport for their perseverance, talent, and the barriers they continue to break. #Olympics #WomenSupportingWomen #HypeWomen #Solidarity #Sportsmanship #Inspiration #Empowerment

I'm already in Olympics withdrawal now that they're over, and I'm counting down the days until the Paralympics begin (13 days and counting! 🗓️). In the meantime, I can't help but reflect on the historic progress towards gender parity at this year's Summer Games. The IOC's commitment to equal representation is a game-changer for female athletes. The shift is monumental from when women were barely allowed to compete to now, where nearly 50% of participants are women. These athletes aren't just competing—they're dominating headlines, socials (@ilonamaher), inspiring millions (@summermcintosh), and proving that talent knows no gender. 💪✨ But while the strides made on the global stage are commendable, disparities persist—especially in pay, sponsorship, and opportunities for women coaches. Women coaches are crucial because they bring unique insights, environments and experiences that help female athletes reach their full potential. This article and many others have helped bring this disparity to the forefront. The journey towards true equity in sports requires a commitment from all levels—from grassroots to the biggest stages. By continuing to invest in women’s sports, breaking down system barriers and fostering inclusive environments, we can ensure that the next generation of female athletes and coaches have the support they need to thrive. The future of sports is inclusive, and it’s being built now. 🚀 #Paralympics #Olympics #GenderEquity #WomenInSports #Inclusion https://lnkd.in/dVmExJAq

Multi Award Winning Business strategist, TedX Speaker, Futurist & Coach helping business owners everywhere thrive. Over 60's powerhouse, passionate about women in business (who also writes spy novels as Wendy Charlton)
65 Medals is the GB haul at the Paris Olympics and everyone holds a unique story. The youngest winner was 16-year-old skateboarder Sky Brown. The oldest was 57-year-old dressage rider Carl Hester. We have heard a lot about the mental health struggles and resilience required to become an olympian at these olympics and the number who almost gave up when the going got tough. BUT they didn't. When you have a passion, something that drives you and defines who you are it is astonishing the challenges you can face, what obstacles you can overcome. And all for a shiny disc of metal. I see similar acts of heroism, tenacity and resilience every day in business. Female founders juggling home, family and mission, living on a shoestring because you have absolute belief that this is what you were meant to do. There are no gold medals or ceremonies for them, just a sense of satisfaction when it goes right and maybe a family holiday as a reward. The humility of olympians is striking but the humility of women in business is astounding. Whilst we wait for our heroes to return and do the endless round of press interviews, post games analysis and back slapping spare a thought for the quiet resilience, focus and dogged determination of female founders who do this day in and day out without any limelight. I do think that many of them deserve a medal! #smes #microbusinessgrowthclub #winners

I was a gymnast for awhile as a kid and I loved everything about it, so I am, of course, thrilled to watch our teams in the Paris Olympics. What I haven't been thrilled about is the conversation around diversity that is swirling because we have a very diverse women's team this year. Older, younger, Black, white, brown and yellow...these women are a true representation of what our country looks like. With access to the same type of training via schools and parental pay, our strongest women's teammembers reflect the rich diversity of our country. People keep saying not to bring diversity into this but that is exactly the point. When we have equality, we will have representation of many groups based on merit and talent alone. I look forward to the day that our workforce looks like our women's gymnastics team...diverse BECAUSE of equal opportunity, and the understanding that if a person that is different from the past majority succeeds, it is because they were given equal opportunity and were the best qualified, just like our gymnastics team. We are begining to see what happens when people of color are not actively blocked from companies and leadership roles. I also look forward to the day that people of color are not told they got their jobs for any other reason than they were skilled in the area needed to round out the team, because we ARE qualified. And I promise, we are all better together. Go Team USA!!!! #equality #equalopportunity #POCarequalified #diversitymatters #bettertogether #ParisOlympics #gymnastics

The Olympic Trials for USA Track & Field didn’t disappoint! They were, as ever, full of “thrill of victory, agony of defeat” moments, including for our biggest stars: Some made the team, e.g. Sha’Carri Richardson. Others didn’t, e.g. Athing Mu. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone set another world record in the Women’s 400m hurdles, on the last day, in the very last event. Paris is going to be special. Two notes from the Trials on sex and gender in sports: 🥇 The performance gap between the XX and XY athletes was wide as ever, but that did nothing to diminish the athleticism, excitement, and expressive value of the competition. All the performance gap does – assuming we also care about seeing and celebrating the best XX athletes on the planet – is justify the existence of and support for a separate protected female category. Male and female bodies are different structurally and physiologically, but they’re both capable of amazing things! - Nikki Hiltz ran 3:55.33 to win the Women’s 1500m. (Cole Hocker ran 3:30.59 to win the Men’s, which made for an 11.1% gap between the two.) - Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone ran 50.65 to win the Women’s 400m hurdles. (Rai Benjamin ran 46.46 to win the Men’s. The women's hurdles are shorter so this event isn’t directly comparable, but the gap between them was 8.6%.) - Sha’carri Richardson ran 10.71 to win the Women’s 100m. (Noah Lyles ran 9.83 to win the Men’s, which also made for an 8.6% gap between the two.) 🥈 After Hiltz won the Women’s 1500m, NBC News announced: “Transgender runner Nikki Hiltz is headed to the Paris Olympics.” Per its adoption of a trans advocacy group’s style guide, the article was devoid of anything that might indicate Hiltz’s sex. No qualifier like “man” “male” “woman” or “female.” Just “transgender runner” and they/them pronouns. So the question rang round the world: Did an XY athlete win the USA Championships in the Women’s 1500 meters? Here's the answer, from the conclusion of the section of my book - On Sex and Gender - about eligibility standards for girls’ and women’s sports: “As we work through these challenges, it’s important to hold on to the difference between sex and gender. Competitive sport separates us by sex for good reasons, but it also welcomes—or should welcome—gender diversity within sex categories, just as it does—or should do—within age categories. Athletes have always had gender identities all along the spectrum. Caitlyn was inside Bruce when Bruce won gold in the decathlon at the 1976 Olympic Games. Nikki Hiltz, the new American record holder in the women’s mile, identifies as transgender nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns. They belong in the female category because they’re female; they’re celebrated as a member of Team USA because they’re a great athlete in their sex class; and they’re embraced on the international circuit because they’re a special human being.”
