#OpenAI Calls for Evolution in AI Infrastructure Security OpenAI is urging the AI community to rethink and evolve infrastructure security to protect advanced AI systems. 🛡️ In a recent article, the company outlined six key security measures they believe are necessary to safeguard AI technology from those who seek to misuse it. As AI becomes increasingly strategic and sought after, OpenAI expects threats against AI systems to intensify. Protecting model weights, the output of the model training process, is a top priority for many AI developers. However, the online availability of these model weights, necessary for powering tools like ChatGPT and enabling further research, also makes them a target for hackers. OpenAI believes that securing advanced AI will require an evolution in infrastructure security, similar to how the advent of the automobile and the internet required new safety and security developments. AI - as expected - was the highlight of BlackHat. Everyone talking AI and security. But there are actually three different and distinct “AI”s when it comes to cyber security: 1. Cyber for AI 2. AI for Cyber 3. Cyber against AI I will try to highlight the main differences: 1. Cyber for AI refers to the cybersecurity measures, techniques, and tools designed specifically to protect AI systems, models, and data. As AI becomes more integrated into various sectors, ensuring that these systems are secure from tampering, theft, and other malicious activities is crucial. Examples: AIM security (and several competitors such as Lasso Security, Modzy etc) allow customers use GenAI technology without compromising security. The use of GenAI exposes the organization’s data, IP and proprietary knowledge, so they must be secured. Companies like Robust Intelligence, Hidden Layer, Calypso AI etc. focus on securing AI models and ensuring their integrity, using tools for AI model testing, validation and monitoring, helping their customers protect their models and model-based applications from attacks. 2. AI for Cyber is using artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques to enhance cybersecurity operations. This can include threat detection, incident response automation, analyzing large datasets for potential vulnerabilities and threats - none of this is really new. Companies like Darktrace and even PANW have been doing this for a while. Vectra (and more contemporary solutions like Opus Security & Mesh Security) have taken it to the next level of automation / ease-of-use. 3. Cyber against AI is about identifying non-human actors and AI and keeping networks / processes safe by preventing them from being accessed by AI agents acting as humans. In a way, that’s “old cyber” - malicious actors have been automating their attacks forever. But with the advent of AI, the diversity and speed at which it gets done requires a whole different set of attributes - most critically speed and efficacy. I guess this is where we would expect to see innovation in the use of AI against AI. War of the robots is upon us. #AI_Cyber #Cyber_AI #Blackhat
