Sokratis Kosmidis, the captain of our logistics crew shares how you can avoid capsizing or being the victim of pirates in the ocean of third-party logistics options. Key takeaways: 1. Partnering with a logistics provider that has the flexibility of a trusted carrier network and their own fleet will be resilient to your business and capacity needs. 2. Plan ahead for potential volatility of capacity and rates. Market fluctuations and potential tariffs are looming. 3. Don’t be fooled by the lowest rates. The difference between a reliable, vetted carrier and the unknown with lowest price can lead to damaged goods and missed deadlines. 4. Invest in a relationship with a freight partner that has invested in themselves with technology and data. They will mitigate the bumps in the road. “Holiday Freight Tip!” 🎄✨ The holiday season is here, and we all know it’s one of the busiest times of the year for shipping. With carriers juggling packed schedules, tight deadlines, and increased demand, a little extra planning can save you a lot of hassle. One of the simplest but most effective ways to keep things running smoothly? Double-check your pickup and delivery dates. Why? • Avoid Layover Charges: If a shipment isn’t ready when the carrier arrives, you could face unnecessary costs for wasted time. • Prevent Detention Fees: Delivery windows are tighter than ever during the holidays, and delays at the dock can add up fast. • Ensure On-Time Delivery: A missed delivery slot could mean your shipment gets pushed to the back of the line—costing you time and money. Taking a moment to confirm those dates and communicate clearly with your carriers can mean the difference between smooth sailing and holiday chaos. Need help coordinating those year-end shipments? At Whitewater Freight, we specialize in making your logistics stress-free. From planning to execution, we’re here to handle the details so you don’t have to. 🚛✨ What’s your go-to tip for staying organized during the holiday rush? Dear Friends of New Light, Today, I read about the Canadian rail work stoppage, which could cause significant disruptions across North American supply chains. The Canadian rail network is directly linked to the U.S. rail system. This will immediately impact bulk transport, such as lumber, cars, chemicals, and raw materials. Intermodal transport will also be affected. If you’re one of our intermodal customers, know that we’ve been working on ways to mitigate any disruptions caused by this event. International port traffic and the LTL and small package markets will also face challenges. Most LTL and small package carriers use intermodal rail for long-distance shipping. UPS, JB Hunt, and others are key customers of intermodal rail, meaning a prolonged strike will significantly impact coast-to-coast shipments. Spot market truckload rates may also rise quickly, similar to the aftermath of a major hurricane. As truckload carriers move to secure capacity at premium prices, rates could increase as early as today. While no single solution can immediately resolve these issues, our 35 years of experience have prepared us to handle such challenges. Our team is committed to helping mitigate as many of these issues as possible. Here are some steps we’ve prepared in case the shutdown is lengthy: Diversify Transportation Modes: Consider alternative transportation methods, like trucking or air freight, to bypass rail bottlenecks. Increase Inventory Levels: Build up safety stock of critical materials and finished goods to buffer against delays. Strengthen Relationships with Canadian Suppliers: Stay in close communication to collaborate on alternative shipping methods. Utilize U.S. Rail and Domestic Suppliers: Shift to U.S.-based suppliers or domestic rail services where possible. Optimize Supply Chain Flexibility: Implement flexible strategies, such as sourcing from multiple regions, to reduce dependency on any single route. Leverage Technology: Use supply chain management software to monitor and reroute shipments in real time. Engage with Government and Industry Associations: Stay informed and advocate for solutions through industry associations and government agencies. Negotiate Contingency Clauses in Contracts: Ensure contracts include clauses for strikes and other disruptions for financial protection. We are committed to serving you through this and any other disruptions that may come our way. Together. Tony Ciaverelli - CEO

Yesterday was a Total flop. My brother and I had the opportunity to deliver this load at 0500 and reload/head to our next pick up locations. We didn’t wake up😭 we rolled in around 0800 and didnt leave until 10. This shortcoming will set us back two full days on this trip. Not everything is win, we are still human. This is actually the 2nd time this year.😅 Despite there being no pressure on behalf of our clients and typically running ahead of sechedule, our own pressure is suffice. The goal is Zero, Zero instances where we fumble the ball. That’s the standard we hold ourselves to. So while people might lie about breakdowns, ETAs, or goods arriving damaged, NOT US. You can rest assured that integrity and honesty reign supreme. If we breakdown we communicate that without shame. If we slept in we’ll communicate that with plenty of shame. If the freight was damaged and we are at fault we take full responsibility and act towards making the resolution as seamless as possible. Accountability, that’s what I see organizations lacking across the board. Last but not least. Sleeping in has never been an issue with time sensitive loads although the possibility is never entirely ruled out. We are all susceptible to getting sick, feeling exhausted, fatigued or an emotional state of mind that affects our abilities to work. Regardless, you can rest assured our team is always honest and steadfast in communicating and resolving issues🤝 Day in day out! #trucking #Flatbed #logistics #America

Helping a Friend Through Tough Times in Transportation At 7 this morning, a friend who’s a carrier called me, feeling overwhelmed by the financial strain of the industry. The rollercoaster of rates, fuel costs, and endless repairs can be tough to handle. To my friend, and anyone else going through this: You’re not alone. Your hard work matters, and there’s a community here to support you. Here’s what I shared with him, and I’d love to hear your advice, too: • Reach Out: It’s okay to lean on others—there’s strength in community. • Focus on What You Can Control: Build strong relationships, keep up on maintenance, and find small efficiencies. • Remember Your Resilience: You’ve made it this far, and that grit will carry you forward. What would you say to a carrier feeling the weight right now? #Brokers #Shippers #FinancialAdvisers #Carriers #Friends

Have you ever had one of those s*** days? I'm very grateful for all my blessings, and I try to be positive because I am a leader in my company and the heavy-duty parts industry. But today is just unbelievable; honestly, I'm unsure what to do now. 😭 I didn't get enough sleep so I started the day grumpy. I dropped my socks in the toilet. What a way to start the day. ❌ We had to cut some of our staff's hours. The freight recession has kicked our butt. This is one of the things you have to do when you run a company and it sucks. ✈️ I'm trying to get a million things done before I leave for HDA Truck Pride's annual meeting and I'm not going to get it all done before I leave. 🔥 We just heard that a pipeline near our house has exploded and there is a forest fire burning out of control. We almost lost our home last year to wildfires and I was evacuated the day I was on my way to the airport to fly to Turkey. Still haven't made it overseas. This just feels like a recurring nightmare. I preach all the time that we don't just work in heavy-duty, we are heavy-duty. This means we are resilient, determined, and have unusual durability. However, even the most heavy-duty person has limits. What do you do when you have a really bad day? #beheavyduty #businessadvice #wildfires #toughday
