Theres the UK practical towing test. You cant see the cones I was reversing into. Im absolutley sure every 13 year old can do this in a TANDEM not SINGLE AXEL (and some can probably drive class 5 to test standard as well... yeah right) Im sorry i like to know so and not think so and I'm practicing my instructional technique while changing roles between instructor and student.. Im so sure all class1 only instructors can do "all this" when i know full well many may not have even towed a decent sized light trailer - yet they are licenced to teach towing becuse its covered in class 1 (any combination under 6 ton) hmm.. if I asked most of our instructors if they could do the UK towing practical test - could they? i would very much doubt it. But just for all those 13 year olds.. lets see a video if you doing this up cold in a tandem trailer perfectly I bet you couldn't and it does take training. For me, I'd prefer to have trailer towing manoeuvres sorted before i do my class 5 not worry sbout what I dont know on assessing day. I shouldn't have to apologise for this learning curve I made public, but im not afraid of what I dont know and can't do as well.. I find someone who can help me sort it out so i can benefit others. Also note, towing horsefloats is towing a live load that is moving around - that can chage things, anyone can drag it around forward.. backwards is another level and when you have to back a float between others at a show ground with everyone looking on uneven ground with horses getting a bit keen about getting out. if you have experienced this and done it perfectly all power to you, just remember everyones experiences and journeys are different and getting practice in is not a weakness.. its a stregnth defensive rant over. https://lnkd.in/gNsKNCxd

As my master’s degree in Technical Writing is completed this week, my internship collaborated with American Adventure Park Systems (AAPS), the leading zipline builder in the U.S. My journey with this family-owned business began at a 2019 challenge course expo. AAPS stood above all others with its impressive 30-foot-long by 20-foot-tall curved big screen, which displayed the video you can see in this presentation. With about 500 zipline companies within the US, AAPS has 107 ziplines in one location. However, as I began to know the team, I explored their training processes, and it became clear that there was room for improvement. I was also concerned about a call with a zipline insurance broker (Robert Monahan, Hibbs Hallmark) that caught my attention. He said, "The problem with the rising zipline injury rates was training,” rather than zipline braking related, as I had witnessed. His statement struck me. I knew poor training leads to critical oversights, like neglecting to reset a zipline brake for a patron. I also knew that most ziplines' arrival speeds exceeded 6 MPH, which requires an emergency brake (E-brake) that resets itself. (Compression springs at the bottom of ziplines will lower accident rates.) Zipline owners create a huge risk to patrons and staff if they don’t monitor the arrival speeds for max-weight zipliners daily. So, reflecting on my research and scholarly insights, I saw the opportunities for training that could significantly reduce zipline braking risks. Then, I began advocating for self-resetting zipline emergency brakes and better communication. Woodcock's scholarship (2014) emphasized the importance of communication between operators, which could prevent slips and enhance safety, particularly in multi-operator ride scenarios. Motivated by this realization, I proactively collaborated with my client, developing seven deliverables to enhance safety and promote best practices in zipline operations.

When a fire breaks out on a ship, controlling it becomes nearly impossible, making loss prevention a top priority for shipping lines. Recently, our fully qualified EV mechanic, Uncle, dedicated an hour at Jacanna Customs and Freight to conduct crucial pre-shipping safety checks of the hybrid-systems in vehicles set to sail. Today I start my 40th year as a toolmaker. A lot has changed since 1985, but quite a few things remain the same. I followed my father's footsteps in choosing a career. He once told me "If you're a toolmaker, you'll always have a job." He was correct. In all these years, I've been unemployed for a total of about six weeks. At times the work has slowed down quite a bit, other times have been unbelievably busy. Then again, in almost 4 decades, there have been some wild economic cycles. I first worked at Majestic Mold Corp. in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. I was paid $5.50 an hour and thought I'd won the lottery. My biggest thank you goes to Frank Nagel. He was co-owner of Majestic, my mentor, and my teacher. He emigrated to the US in the early 1930s from Germany and became the proudest American I've ever know. Without the foundation he helped me build, I don't think I would have the career I have had. Technology has changed toolmaking. Accuracy and speed being the biggest beneficiaries. As I enter the twilight of my career, I know that none of it would be possible without a firm knowledge of the fundamentals we learn as apprentices. A strong America is possible if we older craftsmen do all we can to pass along our knowledge. That way, long after we're gone, our legacy will endure. #toolmaker #moldmaking #machining

Everyone needs teachers to learn the ins and outs of their job, whether that teacher is in a vocational school, an on-the-job mentor, or handles onboarding trainings. Joe Russo, who helps run quality inspections and training for the Fairfax County Government's Department of Vehicle Services, has filled this role for over 200 technicians in 2024, which is why he's Fleet Maintenance's Trainer Overachiever.
