Over the past several weeks, the team at our Mississauga terminal have been collecting non-perishable food items. This week our helpful elves, Guy and Angela, transported all 438 pounds of it to Food Banks Mississauga. We hope you'll join us in supporting those experiencing food insecurity in your community. In 2023, The Food Bank shared 26.5 million pounds of food to tens of thousands of neighbors across our 32-county service area. According to a current study by Feeding America, 1 in 7 people - 1 in 5 children - in Missouri are food insecure. Based on more recent local data, that number is even higher. With rising food and transportation costs, serving more people with less is challenging. But thanks to our incredible supporters, partners, donors and volunteers, we've been able to adapt and continue sharing food at no cost and working to boost long-term food security in 2024 and beyond. For most, it's the berry season. For musician me, it's pie season. This summer marks the eighth year of my Pie & Persistence house concert series, which has raised over $85k for more than 30 non-profits from Seattle to Ukraine. And yes, there was a lot of pie. You can learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gF8Eyfuy In the semi post-Covid world, these typically happen during the summer. I'm a little stunned by how they've evolved from the early days of tip jars and collecting checks/cash for different organizations. This year, hosts have worked with individual organizations to create digital donation pages, which I think is pretty cool. Although this Friday's P + P for the Ballard Food Bank hosted by Jennifer Lamson and Ric Ilgenfritz is sold out, you can still support access to nutritious foods and services for 10,000+ households a month, keeping in mind that food is just the first step in their work of addressing the underlying issues their clients face. We can't address systemic challenges around hunger and food scarcity without building a strong network of community resources and services that are innovative, equitable and just. Access to healthy food is a right, not a privilege. Learn more and donate here: https://shorturl.at/6OMIP #pieforthepeople

£200 towards your community food event Replenish Oxfordshire’s Food Waste Action Week Grants The Replenish Oxfordshire’s small grants programme supports community groups to organise local events, workshops and activities during Food Waste Action Week (FWAW), 17-23 March 2025. These should highlight the issue of food waste and engage and support the local community to reduce their household food waste. For 2025 the week's theme is ‘Choose What You’ll Use’ campaign with the goal to ‘get more and more people across the UK talking about why buying loose fruit and vegetables is better’. We are happy to support events that align with this theme (e.g., make your own produce bag workshops, activities around the correct storage of produce, meal planning workshops, cooking from scratch), as well as events around the broader theme of household food waste reduction. Grants of £200 are available for activities taking place during FWAW. Groups that are ‘new’ to FWAW are encouraged to apply. Deadline to apply: 17 February 2025 - more details and link at: https://lnkd.in/eD_TkJTT #Food Waste #Oxfordshire #Bicester #Grants

Our Food Redistribution Centre doesn't just help to feed communities, it also lowers running costs for the grassroots groups it supplies food to, allowing them to channel resources into direct support for people in need. Our partnership with Cumberland Building Society took this a step further last month. Its Equipment Fund gave us thousands of pounds to buy new kitchen equipment for members, getting 300+ new items out to 33 of our members. We sent out 75 air fryers and 53 slow cookers, along with cookers, catering-size equipment and smaller, specialist items to groups including soup kitchens, food banks and community cafes. 🍽️ Red Rose Recovery received 10 new air fryers to deliver cookery courses; 🍲 Ulverston Food Bank got a new cooker, to help it kit out a new facility; ☕ And our own soup kitchen, Supper's Up, got a new urn to make hot drinks for people struggling this winter. Learn more about the groups supported here: https://lnkd.in/evPAPxSf Thank you Claire, Nigel, Kelly and all the Cumberland team for your ongoing support 💚

Doing good not only benefits others, but can also be profitable. A recent study highlighted the positive impact of supermarkets donating food nearing its expiration date to food banks. By reducing food waste, helping those in need, and receiving tax breaks, supermarkets also experienced a boost in revenue from food sales. This practice created space for fresher and higher-priced items, ultimately enhancing the retailer's image. Research shows that food donations can increase food prices by up to 1%, leading to a significant 33% rise in profit margins. This approach not only benefits businesses but also addresses hunger, food insecurity, and supports communities in need. #FoodDonations #CommunitySupport

Let’s Talk About Hunger Beyond the Holidays Why do we often feel the call to feed the hungry only during Thanksgiving and Christmas? The truth is, hunger doesn’t take a holiday. People in our communities are in need every single day of the year. This holiday season, as you generously donate turkeys or volunteer your time, think about extending that same kindness into the rest of the year. Supporting organizations like Table to Table whose mission is to fight food insecurity year-round and reduce food waste, is a great way to make a lasting impact. Here are a few ideas to help: 🍎 Donate funds or surplus food throughout the year. 🤲 Volunteer regularly, not just during the holidays. 📢 Spread the word about organizations tackling hunger. Let’s come together not just during the festive season, but always, to help those less fortunate. Together, we can make a difference, one meal at a time. www.Tabletotable.org #EndHunger #YearRoundGiving #SupportLocal #TableToTable #MakeADifference #rescuingfood #reducingwaste #relievinghunger

🥬 Fresh, healthy food is a basic human right! 🥬 Yet it's becoming a luxury. The Boston Globe recently reported that grocery prices have gone up 25% since 2019. In that time, food insecurity in Massachusetts has also doubled. More families than ever are turning to food assistance programs for help. When they do, we believe they should find nutritious, high-quality options that nourish them, spark joy, and reflect their tastes. That's why Gaining Ground farms sustainably for hunger relief, and donates *everything we harvest* to regional food pantries, soup kitchens, day shelters, schools, and more. Will you support our work with a tax-deductible contribution today? Your financial contribution will yield fresh, organic produce this year for 2,100 households experiencing food insecurity in #Boston, #Lowell, and the #MetroWest. https://lnkd.in/e5vKvS7P Thank you!
