Securing the best legal & compliance talent that adds value to your business | DEI advocate | Trustee Network Co-Founder | georgiamorgan-wynne@taylorroot.com
🔍 What does true business impact from a General Counsel look like? I spoke with a CEO of a Series C technology company yesterday about the General Counsel appointment he would like to make. When I asked ‘what impact do you want this hire to have’ I was delighted to hear his extensive view on the role of a GC adding value beyond just legal advice. He easily listed a number of business critical objectives and projects that the GC will be involved in. It’s clear to me and the in-house community that the value of a GC goes far beyond legal advice but great to hear this directly from a CEO and it certainly makes for an attractive career opportunity. Some of his highlights included: ✳ Key to success: The GC will help to drive the business forward and be key to delivering a successful IPO plan. ✳ Deal-closer: The GC will work closely with BD teams, being in the room to guide negotiations and secure deals that fuel growth. ✳ Commercial problem-solver: The GC will be crucial in leading on high value, bespoke contracts with customers that will be long-term partners and will require a nuanced approach. ✳ IP guardian – The GC will ensure the company isn’t restricted in its strategic options, keeping future growth opportunities open. ✳ Relationship builder – The GC will establish trust internally and externally to bring stakeholders on the journey and enable growth plans. How are you demonstrating your business impact as a GC? Watch this space for more details on this fantastic GC opportunity I'll be hiring for soon! #GeneralCounsel #InHouseLawyers #Legal

Business Owners and/or Hiring Managers, make sure your next hire is ALL IN on 3 key categories--core values, mission, and clients. Let me explain... Diversity of thought is extremely important to serving the public at large. That said, when scaling a business, it is important to add team members that (1) share your core values, (2) believe in your mission, and (3) are ready to serve the particular set of clients you help each and every day. For a business to stay consistent in these areas is no small feat. But if each team member is locked in, they will not run from the challenge. They will be motivated to stay on the team because of what they are unwilling to compromise--their core values, mission, and willingness to serve others. What do you think? As always, do good things and never sell yourself short. Attorney Odu #hiring #lawfirm #entrepreneur #businessgrowth #scalingabusiness

"🔍 Seeking Sign-off on New Roles as a General Counsel? Here's How! 📝 As an in-house legal recruiter, I've learned that securing sign-off on new roles isn't just about paperwork—it's about strategic alignment and value proposition. Here are some effective ways to justify those new hires: 1️⃣ Align with Business Objectives: Link the role directly to the company's goals. Show how it fills critical gaps or supports growth initiatives. Your potential hire's legal expertise can streamline processes and ensure compliance, boosting overall efficiency. 2️⃣ Risk Mitigation: Highlight potential risks of not filling the role. From legal compliance to operational gaps, articulate the consequences of understaffing. Your proactive stance protects the company's interests and shields it from potential liabilities. 3️⃣ Cost-Benefit Analysis: Break down the investment vs. return. Quantify the potential savings in legal fees, litigation costs, or operational efficiencies. Showcase how this hire translates into tangible benefits for the bottom line. 4️⃣ Workload Impact: Illustrate the strain on current resources without the new role. Stress the importance of maintaining quality and timeliness in legal matters. Your insight ensures the team's effectiveness while preventing burnout. 5️⃣ Strategic Growth: Position the role as an investment in future capabilities. Highlight how it fosters innovation, expands market reach, or enhances customer satisfaction. Your legal foresight enables the company to seize opportunities and stay ahead of the curve. In-house lawyering isn't just about closing deals—it's about shaping the future of the business. By effectively justifying new roles, we pave the way for sustainable growth and success. 💡 #LegalInsights

Environmental Counsel, Construction Lawyer, & Business Litigator Helping Lawyers Accelerate Their Careers Without Burning Out
Young Lawyer Tip #4: Law firm associates can also learn something from the post below. Get to know your clients. They are not just something you bill time to. They are real businesses with real people who run them. Become knowledgeable about the businesses. Build relationships with the people who run them — especially the people around your age range (they will be promoted and so will you). Both will allow you to build your practice.

President & COO of Paragon Legal delivering the best flex talent for your legal team | super annoying about playing pickleball | big fan of dogs | purposefully will have typos in my posts
Legal leaders -- what's the NUMBER ONE most important thing for you and your team? Delivering for your internal clients. Hands down -- nothing else comes close. Yes, this includes managing risk. Yes, it can be saying no (sometimes, not all of the time). But enabling the business to move with speed & confidence is the top priority -- regardless of sea changes in legal & regulation. And I get it. It's tough right now with pressure on budgets and managing spend can feel like a top priority. Relying on OC as the pressure release valve is expensive. But even if it weren't, I'd argue 9.9 times out of 10, flex talent is a superior option to achieve your top priority of serving your internal clients (you also manage spend, but let's pretend that's just the cherry on top 😉 ) 1. You don't need to be in the middle between the firm and your business teams -- flex talent is an extension of your team & are folks with experience similar to yours -- they can stand in front of sales, engineering, marketing themselves, actually giving you leverage 2. They have prior in-house experience and know that an in-house "good job" is completely different than a law firm "good job". The pace is different and they can more than keep up 3. They've worked at other in-house departments and can share how others are doing things in terms of process, communication, etc, etc etc 4. Business teams will cheer and applaud you for the efficiency of your team and there will be virtual hugs and high fives (this is one is not guaranteed, but it is the most likely outcome) Oh -- and it's not even remotely close to as expensive as a law firm. Reach out if you want to learn more or just want to meet my new pup Oliver. #inhousecounsel #legalops #legalservices

Lawyers, there's a trending 🔥 job within law firms right now...but so few are seizing the opportunity. . . Client and Business Development (BD) in law firms is evolving as we speak. At Nexl, we've got a front seat to this from a product perspective. But it's the shift in personnel strategy that's particularly intriguing. 🧐 As most lawyers see daily, many firms are reshaping their business of law teams, integrating fresh roles like client insights analysts and operational roles to emphasize a more proactive and strategic approach to BD. But the most interesting part is the new roles opening up for lawyers to step into... Roles perfect for those that want to stay within firms, but move out of practicing -- at least for a time. === Let's call this role the "lawyer operator" ==== Where you act as a mediator/lawyer whisperer between Business Development and Marketing... And the lawyers/practice groups they support Especially at the relationship level. This new trend is giving the lawyer-operator a chance to as a bridge between the business of law....and the practice of law Sounds easy -- not necessarily but for the right person, it's the opportunity to drive alignment and impact. If you're interested in learning more, DM me and I'm happy to chat more about what I'm seeing.
