The focus of Dr. Saleh’s Leadership & Organization Bootcamp session this weekend was Value Stream Mapping. Mapping is a critical component to identifying areas of improvement within your business. Making sure you scope it correctly is important to the success of your mapping. You need enough focus, but also need to stay out of the weeds. There are 4 different levels of Value Streams and using this as your guide will help you map your product family correctly. Here are some examples of the 4 different levels of Value Streams you can look at, through a healthcare lens: ❌Multi-Enterprise, Multi-function: Hospital, Pharmaceutical, Medical Devices, EHR, Insurance Companies ❓Single Enterprise, Multi-function: Cardiac Patient through their continuum of care: ED, Cath Lab, Surgery, Inpt Floor, Outpatient Care, Testing, Cardiac Rehab. All of the services that provide care to a specific patient. ✅Single Function: Focused on one specific interaction, Outpatient Medical Office Visit. ❌Activity: Vital Signs: blood pressure, height, weight, pulse, etc. The most productive is single function. Single enterprise, multi-function, is a maybe, this can be too large of a scope. The least productive are multi-enterprise, multi-function (too broad) and activity (too detailed). #DrSalehBootcamp #leadership #healthcare #organizationdesign #themplusgroup Mohamed Saleh, Ph.D. Ibrahim Saleh, Ph.D. Ahmed Redwan Jannalyn Lawrence Waad Tarman Sandy Bulgia John Turner 🇺🇸 🇺🇦 Karissa Smart Ahmed Elbermawy,CSSBB,PMP

Today in Dr. Mohamed Saleh, Ph.D. Leadership and Organization Bootcamp, Sonia K. Singh, MHA, LSSMBB, PCC 🔶 joined us and spoke about Building Influence through Emotional Intelligence. I really enjoyed her insights on the importance of listening and how that allows us to practice empathy and increase our emotional intelligence. 4 Levels of Listening: 💡 Active Listening: no agenda other than understanding the other person, and asking high quality questions 📌 Listening with an Agenda: waiting to respond and interrupting the speaker 📌 Passive listening: multitasking, not in the moment and no reaction 📌 Non-Listening: no interest in the speaker If you are not getting the quality of the answers you are looking for, it may be the types of questions you are asking when demonstrating active listening. Reflect on the questions you are asking! #DrSalehBootcamp #leadership #organizationdesign #emotionalintelligence Ahmed Radwan Ibrahim Saleh, Ph.D. Waad Tarman Jannalyn Lawrence Sandy Bulgia Karissa Smart John Turner 🇺🇸 🇺🇦 Ahmed Elbermawy,CSSBB,PMP

Today’s module of Dr. Saleh’s Leadership and Organization Bootcamp was on Quick Changeover (SMED) and Poka-Yoke. We discussed the importance and benefits of reducing your changeover times, and thought of how that applies specifically within healthcare: inpatient length of stay, exam room turnover, OR utilization and ER left without being seen. How preparation, having needed supplies/tools/equipment near, standardization and teamwork can reduce changeover time to increase patient throughout and improve patient experience, both ultimately impacting your financial performance. We reviewed different quality strategies to discover, reduce or eliminate mistakes. 📌 Judgement inspection- inspecting for defective vs conforming product after the fact (weakest strategy) 📌 Informative inspection: - Statistical process control- data/run charts - Successive inspection- inspecting the work after previous person - Self inspection- inspecting your own work 📌 Source Inspection- monitor process itself to detect/prevent abnormal conditions (strongest strategy) Murphy’s Law- if it can go wrong, it will. Mistake Proofing Corollary- if it can’t go wrong, it won’t. Had an amazing week at The Association for Manufacturing Excellence (AME) in Cleveland. There was a ton of valuable information and lots of great learnings! All of the speakers were knowledgeable and provided a lot of insights! A few sessions that were really impactful for me were: Demonstration and Discussion on the Leadership Style Required to Achieve Excellence with John Dyer. This is the second workshop I’ve had the pleasure of participating in and John never disappoints. He had a few exercises that showed the impact of 4 different leadership styles on a team, from a crisis leader (style 1) to an empowerment leader (style 4). Standardized Work and Continuous Improvement in a New Era with Patrick Graupp and Scott Curtis from TWI. They did a phenomenal job teaching us about the value that job instructions, job methods and job relations have on safety, satisfaction and the ability to continuously improve. They had a very helpful demonstration to show these techniques. Rich Sheridan’s keynote, Fight Fear, Embrace Change: Run the Experiment was amazing. Don’t get bogged down by forming committees to talk about changes you want to make, and then 5 layers of approvals, just “run the experiment”. Developing and Deploying a Continuous Improvement Strategy with Yngvi Einarsson, Ph.D. and Anne Frewin. They shared their continuous improvement journey and strategy at ADM. They use visual management in a digital platform to show where they are on their continuous improvement journey, the structure was well designed. Loved how they incorporate Managing to Learn into the development of their leaders. It was great to connect with friends and colleagues as well as meeting a ton of new people. Looking forward to next year! Mohamed Saleh, Ph.D. Ahmed Radwan Jannalyn Lawrence Jared Thatcher Larry Anderson Tony Laraia David A. Today’s module of Dr. Saleh’s Leadership and Organization Bootcamp was on Just-In-Time: Pull/FIFO Systems and Load Leveling. We learned about kanban systems, and Dr. Saleh shared how they can specifically benefit us in healthcare. Many times our practices and department struggle with inventory management- we have too much of something (it expires or we have no where to store it), we have too little of something (and run out, therefore impeding patient care), or no one knows where the supplies are! It can also eliminate the need to run in and out of an exam room when you realize you’re out of supplies, which happens far too often! We looked at how you can create a kanban system within your exam rooms. This allows for a better management of your supply inventory: - Less expense - Less waste of expiring products - Do we have what we need to provide patient care? At the time we need it? This can be a huge cost savings for your system just by having a system in place to properly manage your inventory!! #DrSalehBootcamp #leadership #organizationdesign #healthcare Mohamed Saleh, Ph.D. Ibrahim Saleh, Ph.D. Jannalyn Lawrence Ahmed Redwan Waad Tarman Sandy Bulgia Karissa Smart John Turner 🇺🇸 🇺🇦 Ahmed Elbermawy,CSSBB,PMP

Today’s module in Dr. Saleh’s Leadership and Organization Bootcamp was on Continuous Flow. We discussed the two elements of flow, benefits to cell creation, different cell variations, and cell design guidelines. Here are 10 Do’s and Don’ts of Cell Design: 1: Production Preparation Process (3P) should be lightning fast 2: Equipment construction and layout should permit easy material flow 3: Keep height of all items in the workplace low (less than 5 ft) 4: Avoid machines with loads of unnecessary accessories 5: Design machines to be like town houses NOT each style houses (narrow and deep, not spaced far apart) 6: Use shuttles to allow throw-in loading with auto-injection 7: Make equipment easy to disconnect and relocate 8: Make versatile equipment that can easily be reconfigured 9: Both the equipment and layout should allow the operator to move easily. Open room concept allows operators to see big picture 10: No one-way machines #DrSalehBootcamp #Leadership #OrganizationDesign #themplusgroup Mohamed Saleh, Ph.D. Ibrahim Saleh, Ph.D. Jannalyn Lawrence Waad Tarman Ahmed Redwan Sandy Bulgia John Turner 🇺🇸 🇺🇦 Ahmed Elbermawy,CSSBB,PMP Karissa Smart
