What an amazingly beautiful morning at PNC Park for the American Diabetes Association Step Out to End Diabetes walk! The atmosphere was festive, and there was supportive energy that comes from a community coming together to support people who suffer with diabetes. Tomorrow is the day that Team EPIC Steps Out to Stop Diabetes with the American Diabetes Association! We are so close to meeting our team goal. Those of you who know me aren't surprised that I bleed blue and gold for University of Pittsburgh, 💙💛 but you may not know that I also bleed green and white for Kappa Delta Sorority 💚. I am grateful every day that as a collegian, KD brought me life long friendships and an another honest-to-goodness sister when my pledge sister and partner in crime Bridget Hensel married my brother Michael Hensel! Loyal and enduring friendships are central to the Kappa Delta experience. That’s why, in 1999, Kappa Delta Sorority created National Women’s Friendship Day. And it was so popular that in 2009, KD expanded it to a month-long celebration. Now, women everywhere celebrate International Women’s Friendship Month throughout September. Need some ideas on how to celebrate? Today, my sweet girl found out she’s out of commission for cheer, racing and baton twirling while she waits for her broken wrist to heal. We made a quick stop at our favorite lunch spot, La Gourmandine Bakery & Pastry Shop. My girl immediately spotted Mt. Lebanon Municipality police officer McBride and his partner, K-9 officer Bear as they were blocking a lane of traffic for construction taking place on the road. Not only did Officer McBride let her pose for a photo with Bear, but he also provided her with a very special paw print medallion. Before I dropped her at school, we printed off this photo so she could share her experience with her 5th grade classmates. He turned her day around with a simple act of kindness.
