Women leaders in tech are leading the charge in GenAI adoption, outpacing their male peers in technical roles. However, women in more junior roles are falling behind. But what explains the differences in GenAI adoption? @Boston Consulting Group (BCG)’s analysis shows that it’s driven by awareness of GenAI’s criticality for future job success, confidence in GenAI skills, and a person’s tolerance for risk when their company’s GenAI policy is unclear. Coming from Vietnam and transitioning into a stay-at-home mom for several years posed significant challenges when I decided to re-enter the workforce. Securing a job in the tech industry felt like a distant dream. One of the first hurdles was my resume. It often didn't make it past the job matching algorithms, leaving me frustrated and discouraged. Additionally, I constantly grappled with the question: how can the skills I honed as a full-time mom translate to professional work? Sometimes I ask, why should women be penalized for choosing to give birth and/or choosing to be stay-at-home moms? I chose to stay at home; I declined an opportunity to work for a corporation back in 2011 because I thought I was not ready to leave my tiny youngster for a whole day. I faced some consequences for that choice, but I never regret it. Here I am today, step by step building my skills and my identity. While I understand the importance of networking and self-advocacy, I realized that the journey is undeniably smoother with the right support and allyship. This realization led me to seek out communities that could provide that essential support. I am incredibly proud to be a member of the Seattle Women in Tech Consortium. This community, built by passionate volunteers, is dedicated to making a tangible impact in the Seattle area. Our mission is to position Seattle as a hub for women in technology. By collaborating with existing women in tech groups, we aim to foster connections, provide support, and create job opportunities, ultimately building a strong and supportive community. This month, I have the honor of facilitating the webinar "Women Leaders in Tech are Paving the Way in GenAI." This event will delve into the crucial topic of the gender gap in the tech industry and the adoption of AI. It is a subject that is close to my heart, and I am thrilled to engage in this important conversation. I invite you to join us for this insightful webinar and become part of our growing community by visiting www.seattlewomenintech.org. Together, we can drive change, support each other, and pave the way for future generations of women in tech.
