💡 Why This Matters: - Enhanced Protection: With broader serotype coverage, Capvaxive promises improved defense against pneumococcal disease for adults, particularly those over 50. - Aging Population: As our global population ages, innovations like Capvaxive are crucial in reducing disease burden and healthcare costs. - Public Health Impact: Improved vaccines contribute to overall public health resilience, preventing serious illnesses and hospitalizations among vulnerable groups.
The FDA has approved the world’s first pneumococcal disease vaccine designed for adults, signing off on Merck’s Capvaxive (formerly V116) and positioning it to become the primary shot used by seniors to protect against the bacterial infection.
