For the record, I’ve been a fan of women’s college basketball long before Caitlin Clark. I can trace my interest as far back as Rebecca Lobo and Candace Parker. I also remember thinking that Reggie Miller might be the second-best basketball player in his family. But Caitlin is special. As millions of people recognized. Watching her play last weekend, I realized why I find her special. She plays with JOY. Constant joy. Contagious joy. With Michael and Kobe I saw the competitive drive of a hunter stalking prey. Watching Lance Armstrong I saw grit and determination. With other athletes I see technical brilliance, leadership, strength, and sometimes beauty. With Caitlin I see an athlete having fun. She smiles. She laughs.  She’s having a blast inside that high stakes basketball game. Two other athletes who appear to be playing with similar joy are Steph Curry and Patrick Mahomes.  All three athletes take me back to shooting hoops in my driveway. Exuberant pick-up games filled with friends and fun. On my best days working with staff and clients, I also experience joy. The joy of mentoring younger professionals. The joy of helping others. The joy of getting the right answer. The joy of having an impact on my client’s business. You need to take a break. That's what I'm doing this weekend. 😊 I'm taking off in a few hours and heading home to Chicago. Yes, even though I've lived in South Florida since 1993, Chicago is still home for me. Pizza. Greek food. Hockey. 🍕 🥙 🏒 Blackhawks hockey on Saturday night for the home opener! It's one of my "happy" places. My passion for hockey and the Blackhawks runs deep. Bobby Hull, Jeremy Roenick, Jonathan Toews (my favorite). And now the new phenom, Connor Bedard. A new era has begun. Connor is touted as the next big star, and I'm looking forward to seeing him. A quick trip, but one that's much needed. I'll be sporadic on this platform for the next few days. I think it's time for a Fun Friday. I'll bet you never knew this about me! 😮 My business partner and I were having lunch on Thursday with an attorney who's in our building. One of the things we talked about was sports, and the fact that we each are hockey fans. Well, not my business partner. 🤣 He did some work for the Pittsburgh Penguins during college, and it reminded me of when I was a credentialed media member covering the Florida Panthers. It was a side hustle, but no money. Just for fun and the love of the game. I had a website with these 3 characters in the picture below. We also had a podcast that we did as well. It was a lot of fun, and we had some great times together. Met and interviewed players along the way, and the whole experience gave me a better appreciation for what athletes go through, and all the mental and physical challenges of being a player, as well as some insight to coaches. This picture of Josh to my far right, Dave to my immediate right, and Paige to my left was taken in 2012 at one of the games. Looks like an album cover doesn't it?
