Psychological safety in the flight deck is an issue that many pilots face. While CRM courses equip pilots with the skills and knowledge to navigate complex situations, they often lack the tools to address conflict or tension with other pilots. Let's change that! 💪 Join the movement to improve psychological safety in aviation by commenting "leadership" and spreading the message. 🚀 Visit our website at www.firstclassleaders.ca to learn more about our mission. Together, we can create a safer and more supportive environment for pilots and passengers alike. #aviation #psychologicalsafety #leadership #aviationsafety #pilottraining #navigatingleadership #firstclassleaders

A short story about leadership: It is a desirable, deliberate and enduring mindset - arguably, a profoundly disciplined way of life! In one aspect of my life I am a Boeing 747 Captain for one of the strongest airline brands (Atlas Air)...globally. While I always aspire to be me, I also recognize the revered leadership of this company that I so enjoy working for. I truly love being here. Accordingly, I feel at home being part of it's leadership - as a Captain, representing its brand professionally, respectfully and proudly. In another aspect of my life, I am the proud founder and CEO of a globally-recognized drone manufacturing and cloud technology brand - Aquiline Drones Corporation (AD). AD is another avenue through which I get to lead by example with unwavering passion, tenacity and commitment to success. AD is triumphant and represents the culmination of my life's work. I thoroughly enjoy being here and working amongst our dedicated and passionate team, knowing that I am partly responsible for fostering its 'can do' and progressive culture. I would also add that safety is paramount in both scenarios, and which I have trained on for decades now. It is now part of my DNA. Such a remarkable opportunity - to be blessed with good graces - to do both and to have the capacity to do even more! Please, never set limits on your ambitions and don't let others set limits on yours either. We are only relevant for a brief moment in history - make it count! In both scenarios, positive outcomes are virtually assured because I will settle for nothing less, and that's a comforting feeling for all. It is also my absolute truth. Whatever your passion(s), pursuit(s) or aspiration(s) in life, own it and make it happen. No time like the present to invest in positive change - starting with yourself. You can't be of appreciable value to others unless you have achieved that wholesomeness within yourself. Above all, live a life of purpose, service, and adventure, and, strive to be HAPPY!

Ahoy! In the challenging realm of Maritime and Shipping Leadership, let’s debunk the myth: "COMMON SENSE" isn’t As Common as it Sounds. Some humorous navigational beacons on why this elusive trait is rarer than you might think↴ 🖋️Charting the waters - Common sense in maritime leadership is like finding a safe passage through pirate-infested waters. Everyone agrees it’s essential, but not everyone can spot the best route! 🖋️Lifeboats debate - Believing that common sense is common is like assuming everyone knows how to use a lifeboat. You’d think it’s straightforward... until it’s not, and you're conducting an impromptu swimming lesson! 🖋️Captain’s log - Common sense on the bridge? It’s like expecting every entry in the captain’s log to be mistake-free after a 20-hour shift. Ideal, but often just wishful thinking. 🖋️Cargo loading - Ever watched a crew member load cargo without considering weight distribution? It’s a "common sense" approach that quickly turns into a lesson on physics and balance. 🖋️Radar reliability - Relying on common sense in shipping is like trusting your radar to always be 100% accurate in foggy conditions. Sometimes, what you see isn’t what you get. 📌As leaders in this vital industry, recognizing the rarity of common sense can make us better at training and more understanding of the mistakes that come from its absence. I used to think that because of my 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 rank, I was automatically the 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧, but I've realized that's not entirely accurate! While being a 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 does come with positional authority, it doesn't necessarily equate to the type of 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧s required in today's aviation industry. Understanding the differences between 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻 versus 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙚𝙧 is crucial in the dynamic world of aviation. Here's a breakdown: 👉 𝗚𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀 vs. 𝙎𝙚𝙚𝙠𝙨 𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨: A captain may dictate commands, while a leader collaborates to find solutions. 👉 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 vs. 𝙂𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙩: A captain may demand respect by virtue of their title, but a leader earns it through their actions and character. 👉 𝗧𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 vs. 𝙋𝙚𝙤𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙤𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙙: Captains may focus solely on tasks, while leaders prioritize the well-being and growth of their team. 👉 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄𝘀 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 vs. 𝘼𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜: Captains might feel the need to have all the answers, whereas leaders understand the value of continuous learning and growth. 👉 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀 vs. 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙢𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙨 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙨: Captains may command, but leaders communicate effectively, fostering understanding and collaboration. 👉 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘄'𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 vs. 𝙀𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙘𝙧𝙚𝙬'𝙨 𝙩𝙧𝙪𝙨𝙩: A captain may expect trust based on their position, whereas a leader earns trust through integrity, empathy, and reliability. Remember, 'captain' is a title that can be given, while 'leader' is a title you MUST earn. 💡𝗖𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲: Share your thoughts and share this post in an effort to be a positive influence on your fellow aviators! Keynote Speaker 🎤| US Air Force Pilot| Girl Dad| Building Trust Like Your Business & Life Depends On It 💪🏾| I help CEOs, C-suite execs, & HR leaders build top-tier teams & foster trust & accountability for excellence.
In aviation, we live by the proverb, 'Takeoffs are optional, landings are mandatory.' As a pilot, once I commit to taking off, I must ensure a safe landing, no matter the challenges in between. This principle applies to leadership too. When you choose to lead, you commit to guiding your team to their destination, whatever it takes. Just as pilots face turbulence, leaders encounter obstacles. But your duty to your team remains unchanged: ✅You adapt to unexpected situations. ✅You make critical decisions. ✅You prioritize your team's well-being. Like a pilot prioritizes the safety of their crew and cargo, as leaders, we need to prioritize our team's success and welfare. Your choice to lead may have been optional, but the obligation to ensure a safe 'landing' for your team is mandatory. #NoFailTrust #Trust #LeadershipLessons #TeamBuilding

Seeing the Aviation World from Both Sides Throughout my career, I've had the unique opportunity to experience the aviation industry from two distinct yet deeply interconnected perspectives: as a pilot and as an aviation business leader. As a pilot, I've felt the thrill and responsibility of being in command of an aircraft, navigating through the skies, and ensuring the safety of the aircraft. The cockpit has taught me invaluable lessons in precision, decision-making, and the importance of a meticulous approach to every detail. Transitioning to the role of an aviation business leader, I've been able to apply those same principles to strategic planning, operations management, and team leadership. Understanding the intricacies of flight from a pilot's viewpoint has given me a profound appreciation for the operational and regulatory aspects of the business. It's a perspective that allows me to bridge the gap between the ground and the sky, ensuring our operations are both efficient and pilot-friendly. My dual experience at such a young age has reinforced my belief that success in aviation—whether in the air or on the ground—requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic vision, and a passion for excellence. I'm excited to continue leveraging this unique vantage point to drive innovation and growth in our industry. Here's to safe flights and successful ventures! #Aviation #Leadership #PilotLife #AviationBusiness #AviationIndustry #Innovation #Growth
