It's way past time to retire "rockstar" from our recruiting lingo. When you ask for a rockstar, what are you actually looking for? Top of their field? High-performer? Self-motivated? Bold and inspirational? Great with a crowd? Unafraid to be misunderstood in the pursuit of greatness? Say that! Describe the job you need done and the skills, values and attributes you think a candidate needs to be successful. If it's not writing music and performing it in front of a crowd, rockstar probably isn't what you actually need. (Besides, I don't think Beyoncé or Taylor Swift or <insert your star> apply to jobs; jobs come to them.) Even if you feel strongly that rockstar is great shorthand for those positive attributes above, plenty of negative associations are along for the ride, whether you agree with them or not. Are you simultaneously signalling to some candidates that your culture tolerates (or even embraces) the toxic behaviors that are associated with some rockstars? It's better to be clear about the must- and must-not-haves for a successful candidate. Asking for a rockstar might sound good to you, but it might sound the opposite to others. You want to attract the best candidates, but is the word "rockstar" really doing the job?

People from blizzard read this now! Going wide here and I hope it does not get me in trouble, I was not laid off from Microsoft but many friends were on my last place of work last year. Their is a possibility if you talk and are about to accept a contract or job for another Microsoft company even talking to another Microsoft company your benefits exit package becomes void. Do not get into this trap. I am already hearing a certain company that mostly does contracts fishing people from blizzard! Look i was alerted through a friend of this and I gave advice to try to stop them from going forward. Do not get entrapped in contract job hell we will help you. hell I will help you find a job contact me and I will make a personal mission for you. but do not go to that F ing company! I saw too many friends suffers going to that one company. And no it is not my prior company, but a company across the street of that company. My prior company would also be contract, but at least you would be treated decently in that one. But the exit package possible breaking can happen with any Microsoft company so be aware. If you have questions let me know. Please be patient! Do not let desperation take your hearts. #contracthell #blizzardentertainment #layoffs

Outsourcing Pioneer and Virtual Work Guru. I help small businesses outsource their tasks so they can focus on what matters most: running their own company! $450-$500/month for a full-time talented VA.
When you give your OFS the chance to fix their mistakes and do better, they do become better workers. When you fire someone as soon as they make a mistake, you’re missing out on a potential rockstar. People love to repeat advice that seems right even if they have little experience with it. “Hire slow and fire fast” is one of those. I do the opposite. There’s a better way to hire a rockstar OFS. I’ll teach you how at OneVAAway.com https://lnkd.in/ghaRfBCy

Sorry it’s taken me a little longer than it should have to post about this, but I need it time to gather my thoughts and verify a few things. As many of you might have already heard, Microsoft recently announced a significant number of layoffs at Blizzard, effective January 25, 2024. This news has undoubtedly sent shockwaves across the industry and, more importantly, has deeply impacted numerous talented and hardworking individuals. Layoffs are an incredibly challenging ordeal for everyone involved. For those who have been let go, it’s a period filled with uncertainty and self-doubt, questioning one’s skills and contributions. And for those who remain, it’s a time of sadness and confusion, mourning the loss of valued teammates and grappling with a sense of unease about the future. It’s crucial to recognize that those affected by these layoffs are skilled, dedicated artists who have contributed immensely to their field. Their departure is not a reflection of their abilities or dedication but rather a consequence of broader corporate decisions. In these trying times, solidarity and support within our community are more vital than ever. If you, or someone you know, has been affected by these layoffs, please remember that you are not alone. I am here to offer my support, whether it’s in the form of a recommendation, referral, or just a listening ear. To my fellow professionals in the industry, I encourage you to reach out and support those impacted. A simple gesture of assistance or an offer to provide a reference can make a significant difference during such a difficult transition. We must remember that these changes, although tough, often open new doors and lead to new opportunities. To all those affected, your talents and experiences are invaluable, and I have no doubt that you will continue to achieve great things in your next endeavors. #blizzard #industrysupport #careertransition #solidarity

First time to receive a letter from a rockstar team member for Christmas! 🥹 Many will agree that joining the corporate jungle can many times be a thankless path/journey. Many times, you would question yourself: Am I doing enough, am I enough? Many times, you won't get an answer; sometimes, you get an unfair answer. Many times in you career, you were judged by 1 mistake; 99 achievements were left to sink down the drain. That's why it's called a jungle. Validation is wanted not because we want to feed our egos. We seek for it, so we have the mechanism to determine if we are on track, if what we do is of value to anyone, if we are becoming the person we want to be. I've been seeking for it for years. This letter, every word it contains, made me realize that -- despite the setbacks -- I've done something good, something that is aligned with the leader who I want to be, the person I want to become. I super appreciate this letter. I deeply appreciate all the members of the team (I'm not comfortable with using MY team because this team is not mine, it's OURS. Each rockstar member is a vital contributing factor to make the Mktg machine work and fly). Happy ku ending this year. 🥹💙 -- I'll have it framed and will display it beside my diploma and a few awards! 🥹💙
