“Around 44% of our workforce will retire by 2035”. Tobias Gerfin, CEO of @Rikon Switzerland, talks about the challenges and opportunities we will face in the coming years. With the retirement of the baby boomers, we will not only face a shortage of skilled workers, but also a general shortage of personnel in all areas. This will present similar challenges to many companies. In order to continue producing in Switzerland, we need to invest in automation in particular. We will also need to use artificial intelligence in some sectors. For example, in the creation of product images. We are not using this technology to employ fewer people, but rather to become more efficient. Of course, in Switzerland, as elsewhere in the world, AI will lead to the disappearance of some functions, but not as much as is feared. Various jobs will evolve and benefit from this intelligence. Ignoring this change would be signing one's own death warrant. Furthermore, Tobias Gerfin answers questions in Le Temps about the risks and necessity of production abroad, the corona period, sales markets and subsidies. 𝐍𝐚𝐯𝐢𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐞𝐭 𝐈𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐜 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 Germany is facing a demographic shift with profound implications for its labor market. The twin challenges of an aging workforce and declining birth rates necessitate a reevaluation of labor market strategies to ensure sustained economic growth and productivity. Shrinking Workforce A pivotal study by Möller (2017) sheds light on the projected shrinkage of Germany's labor force. The declining birth rates, coupled with increasing life expectancy, are set to reduce the workforce size, potentially leading to labor shortages in various sectors. Möller suggests that short to medium-term solutions could include bolstering net immigration and enhancing labor market participation among underrepresented groups, such as women. However, these interventions might not fully counteract the trend, underscoring the need for broader labor market reforms to address the impending challenges [(Möller, 2017)](https://lnkd.in/eMQeEz36?). Aging Workforce and Productivity The aging of the workforce introduces concerns about productivity. Older workers bring experience and knowledge, but shifts in the age composition of the labor force may also necessitate adaptations in workplace practices and policies. Training and lifelong learning programs could play a crucial role in maintaining productivity levels by updating the skills of older workers and leveraging their experience effectively. The demographic change in Germany poses significant challenges to its labor market, necessitating a proactive and multifaceted policy response. By embracing innovative strategies to increase labor force participation, adjusting immigration policies, and investing in lifelong learning, Germany can navigate these demographic shifts, ensuring a resilient and dynamic labor market ready to meet future demands. These challenges that need to be solved lead to outstanding opportunities for HR Tech Startups in Germany. With allygatr, we are building the "allyance" and connecting HR Tech Startups, HR experts, investors, and companies in German-speaking countries. For years, technology has been reshaping the workforce. But instead of fearing it, especially as we age, what if we considered the opportunities it could bring? Recent studies suggest that AI and automation could actually extend the careers of older workers by reducing physical demands and allowing them to focus on their strengths. Flexible work arrangements, like remote work, combined with new tech, can empower workers 50-plus to stay in their jobs longer, which benefits them and the economy. See how we can embrace this shift and reap the benefits: a more inclusive, experienced, and diverse workforce. Let's not fear the future; let's shape it. #AI #Automation #FutureOfWork #Inclusion #OlderWorkers

Values driven tech recruitment & career coaching. I help purpose led startups & scaleups to attract, recruit & retain high performing software teams. I coach & advise IT professionals to have rewarding careers.
🌏 Today is Respect for Aged Day in Japan. It is an opportunity to celebrate and honour the contributions of older individuals in society. However, in the tech industry, many of the older workers that I talk to often believe that their wealth of knowledge and experience is overlooked. In Australia, only 19% of tech workers are over 55, yet they represent a growing segment of the workforce as the population ages. With the Australian tech industry needing 1.3 million workers by 2030 to remain globally competitive, we cannot afford to ignore this vital talent pool. Older workers face unique challenges, from bias in hiring to keeping up with rapidly changing technology. The value of older workers is undeniable - they offer years of experience, wisdom, leadership, stability and often a fresh perspective on mentorship and problem-solving. If Australia is to meet its tech workforce targets and keep pace with international economies, we must recognise the contributions of all workers, regardless of age. It's time to champion diversity across generations and leverage the full potential of our workforce, both young and old. 💡👩💻🧑💼 Have you experienced bias in hiring due to your age? What do you think are the main benefits of hiring older workers? #RespectForAgedDay #DiversityInTech #AgeismInTech #TechLeadership

It is predicted, by Bain, that older workers are set to make up over 25% of the workforce in Japan, Germany, the US, and Italy by 2031. Are companies and governments ready for this silver workforce revolution? 300m Chinese will retire in the next decade, and even with the cost of living crisis older UK workers are leaving the workforce. Leading employers are getting creative, offering perks like "Grandternity Leave", menopause benefits, and opportunities for phased-retirement. Singapore is investing in reskilling the over-40s. But is it enough? ➡How do we reformulate the concept of work to embrace greater diversity in expectations and contract structures? ➡What can be done to increase opportunities for experienced workers seeking flexible, part-time roles? ➡How can we redefine retirement to align with the gig economy and alternative income models? This is a future that impacts us all however old we are, or feel. Rather than obsess about the TikTok generation, we need to start a dialogue and pave the way for a more inclusive, dynamic, and age-diverse workforce. This week: Creating a workforce of the future is more than simply raising the retirement age. The effects of the AI era affect every employee, but objectively, I must say that women suffer or will suffer the most. If you have ever had to leave work or request a sudden day off because your child got sick, then you're a mom. Fortunately, for these companies, AI doesn't get sick, doesn't have kids to take care of, doesn't need vacation, doesn't need medical care, doesn't need pension funds and the list goes on. Unfortunately, for us moms, we are humans living in an AI era where we don't matter anymore. I participate in a few Facebook groups for women and I must say, women are having a challenging time in the workplace and workforce. We simply can't compete with AI. With layoffs on the rise, working moms are at risk. I recently read a post from Statistics Canada where immigrant single household families were surviving on the bare minimum. Usually, these are single-mom households. Technological advancement should work for the betterment of humanity, but if it is leaving millions of women without jobs, is it truly worth it? I pray for the day when Keynes' 15-hour-working week turns into reality, thus bringing forth fewer working hours and higher salary. #economy #employment #salary #workinghours #workshifts #ecommerce #onlinebusiness #business #factotums #trustbadges #sales #Keynesian #theory

𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝟔𝟎 are not just old-timers; they are a valuable asset to any organization, contributing their experience, wisdom, and skills to drive business success. Over 60 years old are indeed a treasure for the business world. Here's why: 𝟏. 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: They bring over 30 years of experience and a wealth of knowledge about the workplace, business world, and life. They have already solved problems and adapted to significant changes in workplace technology. 𝟐. 𝐒𝐨𝐟𝐭 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬: Seasoned professionals have developed the ability to communicate effectively, think critically, manage and lead teams, and handle crisis situations. 𝟑. 𝐅𝐥𝐞𝐱𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Many older professionals have fewer domestic commitments, meaning they have more time and freedom to dedicate to work. 𝟒. 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩: With full-time careers under their belts, many business professionals want to share their experience and skills with younger colleagues. 𝟓. 𝐄𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲: Because of their experience, mature professionals can hit the ground running and require less training and oversight. They often get the job done faster and more efficiently than candidates with less experience. 𝟔. 𝐀𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: “Baby Boomers” have arguably seen the most social and technological changes of any generation currently employed. Evolving alongside these professional and technological advancements has made older workers extremely adaptable and given them incredible problem-solving skills. 𝟕. 𝐖𝐢𝐬𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩: Seasoned professionals provide wisdom and mentorship for less experienced employees, lessening the learning curve. 𝟖. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: Many seasoned professionals are not motivated solely by compensation, flexible schedules, or moving up the corporate ladder. Working for your organization is more about having the freedom to share their wisdom and experience for the benefit of the company and its other employees.
