In life, everyone goes in with misfortunes, losses. No one has a life free of hardship. I was living in Florida, had no family there. There was no work life balance. Felt real dark. There were some things going on in my personal life, carrying the weight of others, being there for them and still carrying my weight as well. It was like being in a room full of people but still feeling alone. Waking up in the morning. It was a lot of weight because it was like I had to put on this mask every day to make it seem like it was OK. People are depending on me where it's like, you know what I'm not OK You know, I woke up one day and said like I don't want to feel this way anymore and it wasn't I moved to Atlanta meet new people and I began to put things in place around running. I went from running away from my. She's too running through my issues, really conquering the battles I was going through and finding moves and paces was such a blessing. To find a community who was full of love, full of support. It's more than run crew, that's my family and I'm thankful for them interacting with Black men. Run organization, which is such an amazing group. We are a global organization of brotherhood, coming together, running and just really enjoying life. My name is Shannon Booker and I'm the founder of The Solar Project. The sole project is an Atlanta based nonprofit organization geared to really helping the needs of those less fortunate. As an Everett runner, I'm always running through the city and unfortunately I see individuals with no shoes and some with shoes and bad conditions. So for me, I'm like, you know, I want to do something. In this idea of making the sole project, I can do a shoe drive. I was out of work due to the pandemic. I was breaking my lease and it was just gonna sell all my belongings because I'm like, I don't have the money to keep paying the rent. Money is draining. While I was going through this downtime, he gave me the opportunity to still be a blessing for others. So for me. I had somewhere to go to. There were people who didn't. There were people who were literally losing everything. So if you're out there listening, it's OK to go through this storm. You can still make a difference. Seeing all these shoes coming in, seeing the money being donated, dad was so rewarding. This world can be just so dope if we come together and just help one another. I do that by providing essential needs for everyday life. I put drop boxes in different areas of the city as well as go and pick up shoes, deliver them to the different shelters and resource centers here in Atlanta. Those smiles, Yeah, we're able to put on people's faces. These shoes are second hand to someone else, but something that's just so amazing and brand new to another individual. This is what it's all about. Using this platform to help make a difference and really help those in your community. We make the world a better place by being able to humble ourselves. I want to do my part to make a difference here in the community for those who weren't as fortunate as I was. Live life, enjoy, and let's just be one people.

Two (2!) minute exercise to improve your charity's digital fundraising: Go to your website and try to sign up for your own email list: - Could you find the form quickly? - What copy (i.e. writing) was there around the sign-up form or page? - Did that copy say something generic like "Sign up for our Newsletter?" - Did it offer a compelling reason to sign up? Did it communicate any value? - What was the confirmation-of-signup message like? Reassuring? Bland? We visited 120 charity websites and recorded the answer to these questions and 25 more, then compared what we found to experiment-driven insights. Join us on Tuesday October 1st at 10:30am Pacific / 1:30pm Eastern to learn actionable, simple ways for your charity can improve email signups on your website.
