Finland is a Northern European nation bordering Sweden, Norway and Russia. Its capital, Helsinki, occupies a peninsula and surrounding islands in the Baltic Sea. Helsinki is home to the 18th-century sea fortress Suomenlinna, the fashionable Design District and diverse museums. The Northern Lights can be seen from the country's Arctic Lapland province, a vast wilderness with national parks and ski resorts. ― Google
Finland is a year-round destination. Winters are great for outdoor activities like downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, skating and ice-swimming. Spring and autumn are the best seasons to see the Northern Lights in Finnish Lapland. Late summer and autumn are ideal for foraging and enjoying colourful autumn foliage. The spring months (until early May) offer the best skiing in Lapland – in the south, the snow will be gone by then. The summer months across Finland are known for their white nights, and in Lapland, as a time when the sun never sets. Big cities have interesting things to see and do all year, and across Finland, it’s always sauna season. Explore Finland’s top things to do here.
What are some basic facts about Finland?
Finland is a Nordic country that’s located in northern Europe by the Baltic Sea. It has some 5.5 million inhabitants and has been recognized as the happiest country in the world for several years running.
10 best things to do in Finland
Winter or summer, north or south, Finland has plenty of great experiences in store. Here are 10 things to put on your bucket list.
Finland is a land of stark contrasts. In the summer months, the sun doesn’t set at all in the northernmost parts of the country, hence the nickname “The Land of the Midnight Sun.” In the winter, the opposite happens, and the sun disappears for months. This time, called “kaamos,” isn’t completely dark, though. The white snow, bright moon and stars, and – if you’re lucky – the colourful Northern Lights, create a surprisingly light and magical nightscape.
One of the best ways to experience these two extremes is to sleep in a glass hut or cottage, surrounded by nature. If the outdoors isn’t your thing, you’ll stay warm, dry and cosy while gazing at the night sky and hopefully, the Aurora Borealis.
Finland has the largest archipelago in the world. Where there are islands, there are lighthouses. And what lighthouses these are! While most lighthouses in Finland are now automated, they’re not abandoned, and many make ideal destinations for day trips or weekend escapes.
To see for yourself, head to a secluded island for a day or two – their distant location guarantees peace and quiet, save for the sounds of the sea.

"The Ship of the Desert"
With the launch of the Taif Camel Boulevard Festival and camel racing competitions in the depths of the Arabian Desert, where endurance, patience, generosity, and authenticity are the prominent traits of our region, the desert camel emerges as one of the greatest examples of adaptation to harsh conditions. Dubbed the "Ship of the Desert," the camel do not only demonstrate its ability to withstand thirst and hunger for weeks but also it does serve as a bridge between the past and the present, between heritage and modernity.
In the past, the camel was the faithful companion of the Arab, transporting him across sand dunes and providing him with necessary sustenance and water. It was not just a means of transportation but a symbol of patience, strength, and endurance. As the world evolved and modern technologies emerged, the camel remained as is, affirming the importance of holding on to roots and values even in the face of significant changes.
Today, the camel teaches us valuable lessons. It reminds us that success does not come solely from speed, but from the ability to adapt to challenges, maintaining resilience and balance in the face of adversity. Similarly, it shows us that technology and innovation can contribute to developing new ways to address challenges, but we must not forget the wisdom derived from heritage and experience.
In light of recent events, where we have witnessed the organization of numerous competitions and activities that highlight authentic Arab heritage and culture, such as camel races and traditional competitions held in Saudi Arabia and beyond, the desert camel once again stands out as a living symbol of cultural identity. These events are celebrations of heritage and reaffirmation that the values that shaped our past can continue to guide our journey toward the future.
The camel remains a symbol of wise leadership, where success in business requires balancing innovation with retaining fundamental values. Understanding our roots and history can help us build a more sustainable and prosperous future.
The "Ship of the Desert" is not just a title; it is a living symbol of the story of adaptation, resilience, and pride, a story that blends the old with the new and reminds us that we can advance toward the future without losing our identity. The recent heritage events and competitions affirm that preserving our identity and values in the face of challenges is the ideal path to success and sustainability.
