I remember stepping into the bustling environment for my new Friday job, encouraged by my Mum and Dad so it wasnt all about Homework, Football and Cricket during my A - Levels in 1994/95. From here I donned my new uniform with pride, flipping burgers through the Friday rush. I was young and in my first job aged 16 in a fast-paced environment and thought to myself, "What can I possibly learn from this beyond the art of fast food?" One thing - It was a bonus as you got a free extra value meal on each shift which was a perk, trust me you were starving as you worked HARD ! So as I juggled between the drive-thru orders and maintaining counter hygiene, an unexpected transformation began. It was as though I was in a real-life training ground, learning skills that textbooks never offered. And that's when I realised - the golden arches weren't just teaching me to flip burgers and fry chips, they were grooming me for a future I had yet to realise. The lessons learnt from the gruelling late-night shifts, the demanding customers, and the constant need for cleanliness and order were beyond invaluable. These are all lessons i have taken in to my working life within DigitalNext. The time I had at McDonalds was a powerful lesson in resilience, time management, and maintaining high standards that has since helped me become a co - founder a successful digital agency. These skills, honed in the most unexpected of places, now form the backbone of our commitment to delivering commercially successful Digital Marketing campaigns and well-structured company marketing ready to do business on an International scale. If you're ever feeling overwhelmed by your current job, or you're facing challenges that seem mundane, just remember - there's a lesson in every experience. It might not be immediately evident, but I promise you, it's worth discovering. Final-Year International Business Marketing Student | Study Abroad Student Manager | Freelance Videographer | Cultural Enthusiast
The context: I didn’t restart my college career, in fact, I’ll be graduating in December. I took this campus tour to get acquainted with my cross-enrollment (MU x UMKC). The topic: Using personalization to delight The insight: Hotel service marketing is full of examples of renown brands like the Ritz-Carlton which (profitably) demonstrate how personalization is utilized to create unique and memorable experiences for customers. Personalization is implemented as an effective way of: 1️⃣ Building customer relationships and loyalty 2️⃣ Positioning the brand’s personality (e.g. “cold and superficial” vs “warm and friendly”) 3️⃣ Fostering brand affinity The University of Missouri-Kansas City put this principle in action—and made me smile as a result.😌 All it took was a short registration process and a quick (albeit an admittedly outdated) pull from their CRM database and ✨voilà✨ you get both an educational and personal introduction that makes customers feel like the University has a heart and sees them as a real person. And that, my friends, is the value in marketing.

How well do you measure marketing effectiveness? Are you guilty of analysis paralysis? Are you sent wordy reports from your agency but never find time to read them? Considering the level of investment, I find it surprising that many businesses are unaware of the real impact their marketing activity is having. On 4th June I will be giving a talk at Leeds Beckett University on how to measure marketing effectiveness. If you are within driving distance, feel free to drop by. You will also learn about their Digital Marketer Degree Apprenticeship – a cost effective way for you to upskill any of your team who would benefit from this great qualification. My session will cover: • How to set marketing objectives • Which metrics to track for each channel in your plan • How to set relevant targets • How to use results to support strategic decisions Interested? Find the link in the comments! If you are not local to Leeds but struggle with your marketing strategy or measurement, drop me a line any time! 👋 Picture of me, deep in thought about marketing measurement so you know what my day looks like today 😆👇

Head of Brand, Executive Board Member @Legacy || Marketing Society of Ireland Council (creative stream)
1. Read 'Who moved my Cheese', & try to define your 'cheese', remembering that change is inevitable and your focus in career and in life will change 🧀 2. Don't let the ongoing trend of the 2 year career itch lead to 'grass is always greener' thinking 🌿 3. Advocate for yourself and stay true to your ethics and beliefs ⭐ ...while the discussion was a blur, these are three of the points I remember making in this week's Marketing Society of Ireland Future Council's event 'What I Wish I Knew'; an event focussed on marketeers experience re professional growth, and showing all the twists and turns a career path in marketing can offer. It was a pleasure to sit on the panel with Emma O'Doherty, Jamie Fulham & Rachel Ray, and get lots of insights from them too. Well done to the Marketing Society Future Council for organising another great event, and to Máire McCarron for leading the discussion. Laura Cassidy Sarah Jane S. 🌟 Exciting News! 🌟 I'm thrilled to share that I’ve completed my first module, Digital Optimization, from CIM | The Chartered Institute of Marketing | Chartered Institute of Marketing—with a merit grade! ❤️ This module was a real challenge, but it gave me some valuable takeaways that I can carry forward in my career: 💠 I learned how to create a CRO plan from scratch: starting with research, building hypotheses, prioritizing using the PIE framework, running A/B tests, and continually improving strategies. 💠 I practiced allocating budgets and forecasting desired ROI (despite not being a math person!), and I’m feeling much more confident about doing this in the workplace. 💠 I got hands-on with Google Analytics, generating reports and building dashboards that provide real insights. I’m now working on my second module, Digital Customer Experience. A huge thank you to my boss, Vernon Mathias, for supporting me through this journey. Juggling work and studies isn’t easy, but having an understanding boss makes all the difference! 🙏 And a big shoutout to Ryan Cotton for giving me the opportunity to intern at Thomas Cook—such a fantastic learning experience under your mentorship. 🙏 Here’s to continued growth and new challenges ahead! (Meanwhile, eagerly awaiting my official certification!) #CIM #charteredMarketer #VelvinPackaging #thomascook #digitalmarketer
