Plants have some impressive tricks up their sleeves: they can defend themselves against insects with thorns, hairs, or the production of toxins. So, what can we learn from them? 🔎 Our researchers are using these natural strategies to protect our plants from major crop pests like the cabbage-steam flea beetle🌱 While reductions in the use of plant protection products and climate change are driving the spread of pests worldwide, the development of insect resistance is more important than ever. ➡️The job for our colleague Aurélie Bak and her team? To identify the mechanism the plant uses to defend itself against insects, and the genes behind it. This way, crop resistance traits can be developed. But it is a challenging task: insects are difficult to control, being very mobile and bringing with them a multitude of possibilities to attack plants. Want to know how Aurélie and her colleagues are taking on the challenge?
