Have you ever noticed how silent movies, despite their visuals, lack a certain... emotional spark? The rumbling score that builds suspense before a chase scene. The gentle chirping of birds that creates a sense of peace in a nature documentary. The creaking floorboards that add a layer of mystery to a horror film. Just like in film, every business decision plays a crucial role in your brand's overall success. The tone of your voice and the language you use can greatly impact how your customers perceive your brand. Challenge yourself to be more intentional not just with sound design in your next project… But in your social media posts… In how you reach out to brands… And send out content for review… Challenge yourself to be intentional with every aspect of your creative business and I promise you’ll see significant change fast. #filmmaking #sounddesign #filmtips #videography #storytelling #creativity #filmmakers #filmlife #audiovisual #filmstudent #indiefilm #audiopost #soundediting #sounddesigner #filmsound #postproduction #audioproduction #cinematography #editing #filmgear #filmmakingtips #filmscoring #filmindustry #sounddesignlife #sounddesigntips

This week on LinkedIn I'm sharing 10 cinematography habits to save you DAYS in the edit! A couple each day. Here's day 5! Habit 9 - REPEAT THE QUESTION HABIT When you are interviewing someone for a documentary, it’s a good rule of thumb to ask them to repeat the question in their answer — especially if the interviewer isn’t mic’d up themselves. When I tell interviewee’s this, I usually give them an example. So If I ask you, “what’s your name?” Instead of saying, “Austin,” I would say, “My name is Austin.” That gives us context for the question you are answering because my voice won’t be in the final piece. This is so helpful in the edit when you are piecing together quotes, because now you will be working with full sentences instead of these tricky fragments. Habit 10 - THE ROOM TONE HABIT This is one of the most recent ones that I have added to my process and I know the editors I have been working with definitely appreciate it. And that is grabbing something called room tone. Room tone represents the sounds that you hear when a room is completely empty besides just the people standing in the room, silently. It represents the subtle, low-volume sounds that occur in a room. And no two room tones are the same. Recording that tone is super useful in the edit because it can be used as a sound bed to accompany any new sound that is added to a scene in post production, or any edit where you are stitching two quotes together from different parts of an interview. having that sound bed can provide continuity. So what this means for me is that when I am on set and conduct an interview. After the interview, I will ask everyone to be silent for 30 seconds. And I just keep rolling. 30 seconds of silence that can be used as a sound bed in the edit. Hope the tips this week were helpful! Thinking of using a teleprompter? Four quick reasons why it’s a smart idea. 1️⃣ No need to memorize lengthy scripts. 2️⃣ Smoother delivery. You minimize umms and ahhs 3️⃣ They save you time, and ultimately 💰💰💰 4️⃣ Eye contact, helps make it look like you’re speaking directly to your audience. (Bonus reason, your video editor will love you). Some tips to make it look like you’re not reading! ✅ You still need to know your content. ✅ Use bullet points instead of a full script ✅ Use a larger font size ✅ Be a bit more animated while speaking (similar to news anchors). . . . . . . . . #videoproduction #video #videography #filmmaking #cinematography #filmmaker #videographer #film #cinematographer #photography #filmproduction #behindthescenes #production #director #videomaker #musicvideo #filmmakers #setlife #videoshoot #videomarketing #videoedits #videoediting #filming #music #cinema #camera #videos #livecast #cameraman

“Gray Area” - a short film A friend tried to help him with a breakup, but discovers he may have much bigger problems, that he can’t solve. Directed by: Patricia Eakin (@patriciaeakin) Written by: Patricia Eakin (@patriciaeakin) DP/Cinematographer: Gabriel Martin (@gabrielmartinfilms) PA/Grip: Cameron (@framed.production) Ron: Tyler Burden (@tbirdie07) Brad: Patrick Lyons (@patricklyons) This was such an incredible project to work on because every single aspect of the entire project was done by friends, from writing, to directing, to producing, to cinematography, to lighting. to acting, to post-production/editing, and more. To quote Dan Mace, “Shut up and make something.” Everyone’s got a camera in their pocket and ideas in their head; put the two together, and go create something. #acting #actor #shortfilm #actors #cinematography #film #filmactor #austinactor #director #writer #microsoft #microsoftlife #productmanager #productmanagement #microsoftpm #tech #technology #engineer #softwareengineer #software #swe #pmjobs #pmlife #microsoftteams #business #newjob #newteam #remote #remotework #remotejob #remotejobs #pm #texas #austin

POV: trying to put a lav mic on for the first time. Ah, the first-time lav mic setup—truly a dance of 'where does this go?' and 'oops, sorry!' We've all been there, navigating the delicate balance between getting great audio and not invading personal space. "Can you tuck this under your shirt? Maybe on the other side? Oh, weird fabric, huh?" After enough shuffling and awkward silences, I sometimes wish I could just say, "Let's stick with the boom mic—it's easier, right?" But here’s the catch: as much as the boom mic saves us from personal space dilemmas, lav mics really do the trick for that crisp, clear sound right from the source. So, we laugh off the awkward moments because, in the end, those little lavs are audio gold. 🎤✨ Who else has a love-hate relationship with audio setups? 🤣🎬 #filmmaker #filmmaking #videographer #cinematic #cinematicvideo #cinematicreel #onset #setlife #contentcreatortips #shortfilm #cinematography #comedyskit #funnyvideo #relatablecontent #foryourpage #comedy

Director/Cinematographer | Creating Emotional Connections Between Business and Customer Through Video Marketing 💡
Today's post is a behind-the-scenes throwback to shooting "Generations", the Christmas film for Bowers Group. Creating emotive content is both very fun and rewarding, but it genuinely provides results when it comes to engagement. If you're trying to create brand awareness, the content doesn't necessarily matter. You want people to stay engaged for a longer period of time. So why should you create a behind-the-scenes video? You get a second video for promotion! It shows how much effort you're willing to put into creating content for your brand. #videoproduction #video #videography #filmmaking #filmmaker #cinematography #videographer #film #cinematographer #filmproduction #behindthescenes #director #filmmakers #videomaker #production #musicvideo #videomarketing #setlife #videoshoot #marketing #videoediting #videoedits #filming #music #camera #videos #cinema #cinematic #directorofphotography

In my previous Frame by Frame session, dear Olajide Olaoluwa dropped a question in the comment section "Who is the executive producer?" Let me explain the role of the Executive Producer to you like a ten year old😂 Continuing with my original pirate play illustration (check out my previous Frame by Frame session to understand this) Imagine the executive producer as a super rich pirate who lives on a fancy island🤔 They might not be there every day at practice, but this is how they help: 🎬 The executive producer is like a super cool investor who invests some money to the play. 🎬 They check in with the captain (director) and first mate (producer) to make sure everything is going smoothly. 🎬 The executive producer helps by convincing other investors to sponsor the play. 🎬 They also make important choices for the play, like approving the script or maybe even suggesting some special effects. So, the executive producer is like a rich, helpful pirate who uses their money and experience to make sure the play becomes a success! ✅Thanks for engaging with today's "Frame by Frame" session with David Adesokan If there's anything specific about cinematography you're curious about like Olajide Olaoluwa, don't hesitate to let me know in the comment box and I'll provide detailed explanations Follow David Adesokan for more simplified insights I am Coming🎥🧑💻🎦 iEdit, iShoot, iWrite #videographer #videoeditor #films

POV: Editing for the $500 client vs. the $10K client 🎬 $500 Client: - "Can we get *one more* revision? I just had a few 'tiny' changes..." (attached: 3 pages of notes) 😩 - "Why is this taking so long? It's just a video, can’t you knock it out by tomorrow?" 😬 - "I know we agreed on a 30-second video, but can we make it 2 minutes instead? Same price, right?" 🤔 - "I had this *great idea* can you swap out the whole intro?" 😳 $10K Client: - "You’re the pro, just run with it. We trust your vision!" 🙌 - "This looks incredible. Quick payment sent—can’t wait to work with you again!" 💸 - "We appreciate your timeline, no rush. Let us know if you need anything else!" 😎 Funny how the bigger the budget, the smaller the headaches. 🤯 The $500 client’s got 500 opinions, while the $10K client just wants you to *do your thing*. 💼✨ Who can relate? 😂🎥 #filmmaker #filmmaking #videographer #cinematic #cinematicvideo #cinematicreel #onset #setlife #contentcreatortips #shortfilm #cinematography #comedyskit #funnyvideo #relatablecontent #foryoupage #comedy

This is what 400 hours of video editing looks like! An example of what goes behind the editing process of a Full-length story based documentary. My recent documentary project was focused on continuity between events that happened throughout almost 10 years, the time-consuming part is where each interviewed person’s part has to be precisily listened to & cut to fit the story properly. Additional Layers include things such as titles which are key when it comes to documentary-style storytelling! “Wheels in the Wadi” is now playing on Youtube. #videoediting #cinematography #documentary #film #filmmaking #videography #FinalCutProX #skateboarding
