This week, secondary schools have been filled with Year 6 students coming in for induction days. They are all BUZZING! So much excitement and I am sure plenty of apprehension but so lovely seeing them all starting their next steps. However...there are some basics I feel we need to teach our primary aged kids before they start secondary. These are things I have seen and experienced and although not necessarily 'Careers', they are certainly life skills that we can establish from the start of their secondary school journey. ▪ How to read a timetable and understand that week 1 may not be the same as week 2. ▪ Be organised. Pack your bag the night before so you are not carrying around ALL your books each day. ▪ Timings! What time does your day start, how long is break/lunch, how long does it take you to get to next lesson. It is your responsibility to be on time. ▪ Look after your things! Your pens, books, bags, PE kit will probably get lost. You won't have a hook or 'spot' like in primary school so keep your kit together. ▪ Don't be embarrassed to ask questions. It is good to ask and teachers would rather you ask if you don't know. It does not make you look stupid! ▪ Meet new people. Don't worry if you don't know anyone at your new school, there will be lots of people who don't know each other. And if you do know lots of people, make sure you look out for those that don't and say hi. We see some students coming into school with little or no idea of how these things work and feel it would benefit them hugely with a little head start to make the transition smoother for them all. What else would you say are good skills to take into secondary school? #secondaryschool #secondaryschooltransition

*You need to read this* Avoid offering free summer lessons this holiday season, whether you're starting a new school or running an established one. Instead, focus on setting a suitable fee for your summer program. The key to determining your pricing is to identify the type of parents you want to attract. Consider the quality of students and families you desire to enroll, and set your fees accordingly. By doing so, you'll be able to provide a valuable educational experience while also ensuring the sustainability of your school.
