🌈 It's so crazy how much effect wearing the right shade of colour has. This video shows just how much difference it makes. The first darker shade highlights the darkness under her eyes, making her look tired and gives her complexion an uneven feel. The second, brighter red, smoothes her complexion almost like she's put makeup on and gives a healthy, glowing look to her skin. When you're given the blueprint for which tones suit you it makes it so much easier to make the best choices for you. Then you can build a wardrobe based on these and everything will be cohesive. How does a geisha do her makeup? The makeup process begins with application of bintsuke-abura, special kind of oil. They apply a wax/oil substance called bintsuke-abura to their skin. This is applied to the face, neck, chest and nape area and helps for the white paste (foundation) to adhere. Next on applying the foundation, they leave a line of bare skin around their hairline – this gives the illusion of wearing a mask. On the nape of the neck they leave two “V” shape lines unpainted. After the foundation has been applied, a large sponge is used and patted all over the face, throat, chest and nape of neck. This serves to soak up the excess moisture from the water – and blend the entire foundation into a flawless mask. When applying the eye make-up, they have to be very careful and have a steady hand. One mistake in the application and they might very well have to restart the whole make-up process right from the beginning as small alternations are almost impossible. The eyebrows are drawn in black with a touch of red. The last step is her lips. The lips are filled in using a small brush. The colour comes in a small stick (traditionally sallower), which is melted in water. Crystallized sugar is then added to give its lustre. #geisha #makeup #JapanUnmasked

Contouring is a great way to really enhance your look with makeup. 👌 And it doesn’t have to be hard- but I see a lot of instagrammers making it look complicated, (layer upon layer- no thanks!) Here’s my tips: 👉If you’re over 50, use a contour cream 👉When selecting your colour to contour with, use the undertone of your skin or your favourite bronzer 👉Apply it with a brush, and then use a separate clean brush to blend it! Blending it is key so you don’t look stripey. 👉To help with blending, use a setting spray as you go I know these are short tips, so more on this is coming.
