Professor Sam Stranks is a world leader in the field of perovskite photovoltaics. The solar cells he works to develop are much more efficient than traditional crystalline silicon photovoltaic cells, but Professor Stranks and his research group have also discovered incredible cross-disciplinary applications for this emerging technology. A novel technique to detect the battery internal state non-destructively .

“DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP!” This is the message I shared with the audience at the International Society of Electrochemistry 37th Conference during my talk, in Stresa, Italy. “Mirko, you’re talking about hybrid battery modeling. Why are you sharing such an emotional message in a scientific talk?” It was incredibly challenging for me to model an All-copper redox flow battery. I was clueless. Imagine even combining two different approaches such as machine learning and physical modeling. I couldn’t have made this work without asking for help from Wouter, Prof. Lasse, and my colleague Hector. Here are my top 2 reasons WHY I linked an emotional message: 1)The audience can relate to A) the pain of failing something, like laboratory experiments. B) the difficulty of asking for help. 2)It’s about your audience, not about you. I talked on the last day of the conference. Would you remember my scientific outcomes after listening to 4 days of scientific talks? If you have a strong message, your scientific results will likely be remembered. Indeed, I got this feedback from Polina and @Moritz Rosenthal “It was so refreshing, after listening to 4 days of talks” I thank CUBER and NVISION for funding this research and letting me disseminate these results.
