Currently exploring the Power Threat Meaning Framework (to make up for a Team Meet I missed between Limerick Youth Service and Jigsaw Limerick!)... "This broad PTM Framework is derived from a wide range of theory and research, across disciplines and research methods. It comprises four interrelated aspects: 1. The operation of POWER (biological/embodied; coercive; legal; economic/material; ideological; social/cultural; and interpersonal). 2. The THREAT that the negative operation of power may pose to the person, the group and the community, with particular reference to emotional distress, and the ways in which this is mediated by our biology. 3. The central role of MEANING (as produced within social and cultural discourses, and primed by evolved and acquired bodily responses) in shaping the operation, experience and expression of power, threat, and our responses to threat. 4. As a reaction to all the above, the learned and evolved THREAT RESPONSES that a person, or family, group or community, may need to draw upon in order to ensure emotional, physical, relational and social survival. These range from largely automatic physiological reactions to linguistically-based or consciously selected actions and responses." (Taken from the PTM Overview document from the BPS in 2018)

As strange as it might sound, there will never be decolonisation In Ireland unless non institutionalised narratives are given their platforms. We cannot decolonise any discipline without understanding institutions and we cannot decolonise institutions without understanding their systems and we cannot decolonise the systems without understanding the colonial mentality and we cannot decolonise the colonial mentality without understanding its origins and we cannot decolonise the origins without understanding its foundation. It is difficult to see the inside from the outside and it is difficult to see the outside from the inside. When will people understand that Ireland is psychologically colonised and historical traumatised. Many countries were colonised and we know much on these historical events and while painful as they are also inspiring how people can be so forgiving. Ireland got colonised almost 1000 years and five centuries of conquests/oppression thereafter. It had almost wiped half of its population on a small island. There was genocide after genocide, starvation, famines and a lot of scorched earth. Generation after generation traumatised, dehumanised and othered to death. That was in the past, it was long, long gone and it shouldn't effect any of us in the present in any way. But It is not history for Irish Travellers, its our living experiences, our cultural experiences, historical experiences and history and present are all the one. No decolonising anything if we can't acknowledge the colonial elephant in the room. Traveller/Settled/Working Class are colonial labels from colonial language, from a colonial mentality and still used in unchanged colonial institutions. Ireland had its history backwards and its killing people. Travellers/Tinkers/Itinerants/Nomads/Wilde Irish/Gallowglass/Bards/Enemy of the Empire = Gaels. Who are Settled Irish and why are they using English colonial institutions, words, attitude and mentality of the coloniser? We are only exploiting vulnerable communities without addressing these issues. #ThereBeNoPeaceInTheColony
