If you're unfamiliar with the Community Schools Model, which puts communities at the heart of education and schooling, or the work of Communities In Schools, the organization I work with which has been a beacon, a model and an active advocate of these ideals for decades, then start with this article. Now is the best time to educate ourselves about the benefits of this educational model so that we can advocate for policies and budgets that support this model of schooling during the current GA session and beyond! Reach out if you have questions! I love to share about the work we do! https://lnkd.in/eW8ukiJt
"A highly successful organization offering integrated student services is Communities In Schools. CIS is a national nonprofit that is one piece of the larger Community Schools puzzle. While many nonprofit providers offer valuable programming outside the traditional school day, significant and life changing support also occurs during the school day through organizations like CIS." Thank you Forbes for highlighting the work the work of CIS and sharing the perspectives of Communities In Schools of Richmond president and CEO Harold Fitrer and CIS Founder and CIS-VA vice chair Bill Milliken. New year, same mission! WE ARE #AllinforKids across Virginia! https://lnkd.in/ePtQjGbB

West Harlem arts centers share their stories of life after the pandemic S/O to Elliot Heath and The Columbia Spectator for this excellent profile of four of our grantees (The Morningside Players, the Mama Foundation for the Arts, Dances for a Variable Population, and Arts & Minds) and the crucial work that they do in our community. West Harlem has always been a haven for creative expression, boasting an array of arts-based organizations and community centers. With nonprofits in particular, outside funding and government grants help sustain programming, which can bolster community involvement. The COVID-19 pandemic, however, presented unforeseen hardships to small businesses across the city, including artistic centers. The Morningside Players, the Mama Foundation for the Arts, Dances for a Variable Population, and Arts & Minds, who all receive funding from the West Harlem Development Corporation, are four West Harlem-based organizations that faced such challenges. Now that operations are finally getting back to normal in the aftermath of the pandemic, here are their stories. #WHDC #Harlem #WestHarlem #HarlemUSA #EternalHarlem #UptownCollectiv #UptownCollective

Helping K12 district leaders make sense of their data to maximize funding 💰, drive academic performance 📊, and optimize the budget for what actually works 🎯.
Alex Jarrell how do districts get more funding!!!? I loved your piece in The 74 about Federal-Philanthropic partnerships. This is a funding strategy that I had not heard about before, and it’s particularly relevant given the looming fiscal cliff. In the article you described setting up these partnerships when you worked at the nonprofit NSNO with the aim of supporting local schools. My question is, how can K12 district leaders proactively foster these sorts of partnerships themselves? Are there specific channels to go through or a short list of organizations to connect with to engage in this process? Note- Link to Alex’s article in comments. #edchat #edleaders #K12

Join us in Pathways, a free program that supports arts and heritage workers as they learn about equity and access, and integrate this work into their organizations. Pathways is a program developed by our community to serve our community! Connect with over 70 organizations across the province as we support and learn from each other. Pathways provides access to resources, workshops and peer support networks for an entire year. Applications are now open for the September 2024 intake of the Pathways program. Every organization is unique and serves a specific community. Pathways is designed to be impactful for organizations and individuals working in different contexts, with different interests, and at different points in their work towards equity. Whether you are strongly invested in equity and would like support to access more costly advanced learning opportunities, or are just beginning and would value one-on-one guidance as you get started; this program may be a good fit for you and your organization. We recognize arts workers/volunteers are balancing their limited capacities and the desire and expectation to do equity work in meaningful and sustainable ways. If you want community support and personalized guidance in taking your organization’s equity work to the next level, apply now. Expressions of interest are now open - apply before July 22. Full program details are available on the Pathways website: www.manypathways.ca Image Description: A navy blue square with light teal line accents. The first years of a child’s life can determine the rest of their development. Investing in early care and education (ECE) makes sense—it helps children prepare for successful futures and creates a high return on investment of public dollars. Funders of any size have a real opportunity to help create a system where all children can thrive. In our new guide, we share 7 principles that we have found to be crucial for ensuring success: https://lnkd.in/dGJTXM-3 #ECE #education #earlychildhoodeducation #earlycare #philanthropy #philanthropicfunding #socialimpact #socialchange

Three years ago, the Generosity Commission was established to address the decreasing percentage of Americans who volunteer and donate to nonprofit organizations. According to some estimates, less than half of U.S. households now contribute their time or money, leading some to describe the situation as a "generosity crisis." Research proves, that giving reduces stress, improves quality of life, connects you to community, and helps you live longer (Cleveland Clinic, 2022). Earlier today, the commission released its report outlining the extent of the issue and proposed solutions. The attached article has several easy to apply solutions for business leaders and educators. https://lnkd.in/ej_U3qGB
