Me and the fam came out earlier this morning to Take Space - Celebrating the Miracle of Enduring Black Joy. It was an event to recognize the importance of the Black community having the ability to be involved in sports that haven’t always been an inviting space for Black folk; in understanding that we as Black and brown people belong wherever we choose to be, which is everywhere! For me, growing up as a Mexican kid in Southeast SD, marathon and tri was completely unkown to me. It was all about the major sports. So when I started doing endurance sports almost 15 years ago, I would often feel like I was the only brown person rolling up to races. While the SD endurance sports landscape has become more diversified over the years, the lack of diversity with something as simple as running becomes more apparent when traveling to other cities. Props to gen Z because they stand fearless in doing things that aren't typically things that we as Black and Brown people traditionally do. So I’m hopeful at what their future holds within endurance sports. Whether they learned that from our peers that we might’ve seen as different or weird growing up or because of a more welcoming environment in their own lives, it’s something that we can glean from them in getting our fellow gen X and older Millenial peers to understand that we can stretch beyond the norms that were shown to us as kids and that it’s not too late to take better control of our health and wellness and try something different. Events like today are great in seeing all of these dope ambassadors for running and health come together and realize that we’re making an impact in our own families and communities - taking the stigma away and showing the wider world that we belong. Because while running races and earning some bling is cool and all, at the end of the day, it’s all about being healthy enough to think about tackling these challenges regardless of the distance; regardless of the speed. #kickpush #EnduranceFitnessPerformance #runcoach #tricoach #ultracoach #fitnesscoach #marathoncoach #runningfordiversity #RADrabbit #teamnuun #teamzoot #runningcommunity #SDrunners #BlackHistoryisAmericanHistory #allyship

Some of you may be know I like endurance sports and this article shared by a fellow athlete Rebecca Byerly, resonates with me. Not because I can do what Jasmin has accomplished, and amazing accomplishment for any human and out of my league, but the reason why we seek challenges and the pleasure it gives us in honing our craft whether in work or play. Check out the analysis of social science and endurance.
Interesting article in The Financial Times on Jasmin Paris’ legendary finish at Barkley. Something to ponder as we hopefully get away from our devices and head into the weekend. Happy Friday! https://lnkd.in/eSabk2pE

Stockport Council appear to be recruiting around positive messaging. The challenge is to deliver "a strong focus on the success of cycling and walking policies, schemes, and initiatives" and turn around a "colossal" lack of ambition and foresight as evidenced by the A6 'corridor' scandal. The current A6 proposals will: ❌️ Achieve zero modal shift (a key CRSTS funding objective) 📉 Show pitiful benefit:cost ratio for bus and cycling 🌃 Limit people's options for travelling after dark 💸 Seriously risk Transport for Greater Manchester's future funding streams and Active Travel England capability rating. The job listing presents an opportunity to turn that around and deliver a genuine multimodal vision of: 🕛 24-hour bus lanes 📑 Urban design that meets #StreetsForAll standards ✅️ Healthy, active people with several options to leave the car at home 👮 Improved personal safety via natural surveillance 🏥 Reduced burden on the NHS 📈 Increased productivity https://lnkd.in/ezDfkaDE
👀 We're pleased to see boroughs like Stockport Council in #GreaterManchester advertising for key transport strategy roles like this one, emphasising "a strong focus on the success of cycling and walking policies, schemes and initiatives" 🤝 If you'd like to be part of delivering an equitable transport system, please apply via the shared link ✅️ Looking forward to cycleways along key direct routes, like the A6 https://lnkd.in/ecsscUje

What does it feel like to be the only person in the world to have achieved a given result? On stage 5 of the Tour de France 2024, Mark Cavendish, riding with team Astana Qazaqstan, achieved his 35th stage win. Remarkable. Even astonishing. Last year, Netflix released a documentary about Mark’s cycling career - Never Enough - and three things really stood out to me from the film: 1. Mark is an incredibly driven person. 2. Mark’s partner is incredibly supportive. 3. Mark has had an incredible entourage of mentors and team members who all came around to support him. Incredible. Not least because most of the cycling community had written him off, following a history of crazy crashes and mental health issues. No drugs. No nasty team tactics. No cheat codes. He pulled himself back to victory with the intervention of the 3 factors listed above. A combination that has now made him a truly unique person. I have no idea what that must feel like. Do you? My school friend, Ned Phillips, recently ran 100 miles to reach the start of a 5km race. Yes, you read that right. Another remarkable feat, and a little more down to earth than Mark’s achievements. But what about all the hidden achievements going on in the workplace place? Consider these scenarios: A. Implementing a product in an organization that has never used such a product before. B. Turning on organization around from falling sales to record revenue levels. C. Lifting an organization’s Glassdoor feedback score from a 2 to a 4. There are so many incredible achievements that individuals are striving for. That teams are striving for. That organizations are striving for. Imagine how motivating it might be for a leader to tell their team, “hey, if we do this, I’ll get us into the [insert your favorite public award program here]. What public award are you going to achieve for your team this year? P.S. Everyone loves the opportunity to dress up in a tuxedo, or a little black dress. P.P.S. If you are wondering where, when, how, and why I write these posts, I’m currently sitting in a Delta lounge at JFK, heading to the UK, on July 4th, to celebrate Britain’s independence from the USA. We were never going to achieve the greatness that the USA has. #1 in the world. Happy 4th July. Happy Independence Day.

In a recent event hosted by Jesse Cole, owner of the Savannah Bananas baseball team, a baby race took center stage, culminating in what he describes as possibly the greatest comeback of all time. Amidst the sold-out crowd's uproar, Hudson demonstrated remarkable sportsmanship by aiding his competitor before making an astonishing comeback to clinch victory. Cole reflects on the genesis of such an unconventional event, tracing it back to the mindset of challenging norms. Instead of the typical fast-paced races, they flipped the script, organizing a crawling baby race set to the iconic "Chariots of Fire" theme song. This approach of doing the opposite of what's normal often sparks their most creative ideas. The unpredictable nature of the baby race parallels the unpredictability of life and business. Just like the babies, sometimes we stumble, cry, or stand up only to fall down again. But amidst the uncertainty, there's the potential for magic, for those moments that go down in history. For business owners like Cole, this anecdote serves as a reminder to embrace innovation, to challenge conventional thinking, and to find joy in the unexpected. It underscores the importance of perseverance, sportsmanship, and the power of creating unique experiences that leave a lasting impact on both customers and participants. As Cole aptly puts it, "You truly never know what's going to happen," but therein lies the joy of the journey. We have magic happening in my Vistage Group each month. Check out my website at StevenCrabtree.com and schedule a call with me.

This was the greatest baby race of all time and possibly the greatest comeback of all time. Hudson showed great sportsmanship in looking out for his competitor before racing to a huge come from behind victory. This was so much fun to host and you could hear the sold out crowd going crazy throughout the race. I'd like to say we wrote it up this way but we could never do that. We came up with this idea years ago, and visualized a race like this but have never seen it all come together with a miraculous finish like this until this weekend. The mindset that brought us this idea and often brings us most ideas is, "Whatever's normal do do the exact opposite." Instead of a fast race with adults that most teams have, could we have the world's slowest race with crawling babies. And that's how this was born as we play "Chariots of Fire" theme song as they attempt to crawl. Often many of the babies just sit there with some crying, but once in awhile you get the magic. Last year, a baby stood for the first time. Another time, a baby stood and took their first step before falling down. You truly never know what's going to happen. It's just a joy to watch and see their parents encourage them....but this one will go down in history!
