Today, 21st March, is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. The 2024 theme of the International Day is “A Decade of Recognition, Justice, and Development: Implementation of the International Decade for People of African Descent”. Here at Driven By Us, our mission is to empower aspiring leaders by actively engaging the community and influencing perceptions in the industry. Our focus as an organisation is to empower ethnic minorities and underrepresented groups within the workplace as well as the wider motorsport community. We aim to support individuals on both a personal and professional level, providing networking opportunities, career advice and support on how to develop confidence in a competitive industry. We hope that STEM and Media roles within the motorsport industry will eventually become accessible to all. The fact that we exist, whilst displaying incredible talents, shows the industry has along way to go, with our support via an authentic talented community. No Experience Ever Goes to Waste Standing in front of the Aston Martin F1 Team in London last week, I’m reminded of a time many moons ago when I was a grid girl. Back then, I gained a unique understanding of the F1 world but noticed a glaring absence—female mechanics. Fast forward to today, and it is an honour to see the progress we’re making through Empowered Women In Trades (EWIT) Group Our mission to push the needle towards 30% female representation in skilled trades in Australia is sending ripples across the ocean, reaching countries like the UK. It's exhilarating to think about a future where we see 30% female representation in F1 mechanic positions. But this vision won't become a reality without a collective effort. That’s why we’ve launched the EWIT Alliance—a community of like-minded organisations dedicated to driving this change. The Alliance provides invaluable resources, networking and opportunities to support and empower women in trades. Join us in this mission.
