Last week I caught up with a stellar Vice President of Sales at a life science tools company, managing a team of seasoned North American sales reps. "We've had the best quarter to date" - I'll be honest. I wasn't expecting to hear this 😅 We all know pharma and biotech have seen a steady decline in their clinical trial programmes and development pipelines, which in turn has led to layoffs and a consolidation process. Reduced clinical or pre-clinincal trials and experiments, mean the use of the high-throughput analysis and capital equipment reduces, and consequently re-occuring run rates of reagents and consumables too. But, what is on the up? Academic research and innovation grants - therefore life science tool providers must tailor their value-add for this traditionally viewed 'low ticket' segment, just like this sales leader did.
