Being a Biotechnology Student is not easy.. when a student join undergraduate course in biotechnology they are full of enthusiasm that they will change the world. They will find cure of all deadly diseases and will design rapid diagnostic kit and what not and all of them idealises to be a future scientist. But when time pass half of students leave course by the end of third year and choosen some alternative PG courses. As they have already tasted a sip of long lab hours, failed experiments, tough competitive exam to purse higher studies and survival in minimal fellowship. But there are some warriors who pursue Masters in Biotechnology. But there fairly tale story change into long discussion on failed NET JRF attempts and struggle to work in Adhoc project positions for survival after Masters. When there school friends are discussing there packages they are fighting for fellowship hike delayed cycle of fellowship payment and what not but still they dare to pursue PhD. In this hope one day that change will come in system. So let's not pity on ourselves because this tough situation prepare us to know that science can win any war..let's celebrate our journey and be proud and keep on sharing science knowledge with community at whatever capacity we can. so being a biotechnology student is not easy but life long journey of learning and sharing..

After Masters, students often remain in dilemma whether to opt for a PhD in Biotechnology/Life Sciences or search full time jobs in Industries? Key Considerations: Selecting a PhD within biotechnology and life sciences is a significant decision that requires careful thought and planning. ✔ Personal Interests and Passion: Choose a PhD domain that aligns with your interests and passions. Biotechnology and life sciences encompass a broad range of fields, such as genomics, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, virology and more. Identify the area that excites you the most and that you are genuinely passionate about. ❌ Avoid Choosing Universities Based Solely on Rankings: Instead of focusing on university rankings, prioritize the quality of research related to your area of interest. Look at the citations of publications from the labs you're considering. High-quality research and influential publications often indicate a strong research environment. ✔ Career Goals: Consider your long-term career aspirations. Do you aim to pursue an academic career, work in industry, or start your own biotech company? Different PhD domains may offer varied pathways and opportunities. Align accordingly! ✔ Availability of Funding and Research Opportunities: Evaluate the availability of funding and research opportunities in your chosen field. Ask your prospective PI about the same before joining! ✔ Research Potential and Innovation: Choose a PhD domain with significant research potential and room for innovation. ✔ Faculty and Institutional Support: The support of your PhD advisor/Principal Investigator (PI) and institution is crucial. Your final thesis defense depends solely on him/her! ✔ Collaborative Opportunities: Seek domains that offer collaborative opportunities with other researchers and institutions. Collaboration is must and also attending conferences and professional scientific meets should be supported and allowed by your PI. Consider the lifestyle associated with a PhD. It requires dedication, persistence, and sometimes long hours. Ensure that you are prepared for this commitment and that it aligns with your personal life and well-being. Beyond technical expertise, consider the development of transferable skills such as critical thinking, project management, communication, and teamwork, which are valuable in various career paths. ✔ Job Market and Future Prospects: Research the job market and future prospects in your chosen domain. Some fields may have higher demand and better job opportunities post-PhD. Remember, PhD is a choice, not a mandatory path. It's a lifestyle you need to willingly adapt to. Yuva or Youth. When we were growing up- if you have liking towards life-sciences then the career options would seem like become a doctor or acquire a doctorate. Some of us would play with play-sets while children and imagine the process and result. Recently, I learnt about the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC), Department of Biotechnology, Government of India initiative called E-Yuva. This initiative provides the young mind to drive towards another career path i.e., bio-entrepreneurship. The objective is to catch them young. Imagine you are a graduate with a burning problem that you get to solve with multi-disciplinary depts, get mentorship from the best, get a laboratory and mentor access, a decent fellowship and a research grant. Now that is 🤩 🤩. Imagine being able to manage funds so young! Colleagues of my generation would imagine what this opportunity means! Some of us would work sometimes alone in research labs during vacation days and constantly look for internships opportunities trying to get one novel bacterium that shall solve all world problem:))😅😅 Having said that, should everyone pursuing science think translational research? No! We need a great balance of both basic and translational research. For India 🇮🇳 to become Viksit (read: developed) science and technology on all fronts needs to be on full throttle. To all the #graduates and #posgraduates in #biosciences, do search about this scheme and place alerts to receive 📣 . Colleges and institutions please look out for the next round of applications (link 👇🏼). This is an opportunity, that we must not miss. We need more and more to join the tribe and take our nation 🇮🇳 to the Bioeconomy goal we have set for ourselves. Hello viewers, So today i want to share my experience. It's being 1 year on linkedin and I had learned more about the research which is going on life science field and also taking more and more interest towards pharmaceutical such as medicines used to treat such viruses such as influenza virus, rhinoviruses, etc. After suffering from NEET failure , I decided to take an admission in Bsc courses and after discussed to the head of college i decided to take an addmission in Bsc biotechnology. I was newly entered in Bsc biotechnology, I was very worried about my future and all time I was thinking that biotechnology have no scope and i should have to take a drop year for NEET exam but gradually when I started exploring this field and linkedin then I found that there is various thinks which I can explore in life sciences and then there are the exams such as IIT JAM, GATEB , etc and now I'm in my final year of Bsc biotechnology. I don't why people think that life science have no scope and giving a hype to MBBS and BTECH only.Beyond this fields there various Bsc courses which actually change your life with lots of experience. The main problem is that during choosing a field we first searching that which field have highest package and in some case we follow the trends such as MBBS.In this 2 years of Bsc i had learned that every field is special in that own way and every field has a scope only we should able to change our perspective. I'm very happy and a proud one to be a future biotechnologist. Thanks for reading my post😇 #experience #sharing #lifescience #biotechnology #bioengineering #exams #failurestory #medical
