Rural Security Culture Unfortunately in the farm industry, their is no security culture and hopefully the industry understands that, because if they don’t admit their is a problem, then rural crime will continue to rise unabated and farms will go out of business, due to being uninsurable. The benefits of a security culture for the industry: 1. Farmers are engaged with, and take responsibility for security issues. 2. The risk of security incidents and breaches is reduced, given that the farmers are thinking and acting in a more security conscious manner. 3. Farmers are more likely to identify and report suspicious activity. 4. Farmers will feel a greater sense of security. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY 5. Security is enhanced without the need for large expenditure. www.hawkesandco.uk Helping the rural industry to fight rural crime by using their heads. #nfu #cla #countryside #ruralcomunities #farmingcomunities #mutual #farminsurance #farmers #securityculture

Fire Safety on Farms: Controlled Fires Certain farming practices require regular controlled fires. In cases where controlled fires are needed, the following should be considered: - Approval for a controlled fire must be obtained from the local authority. - It is good practice to inform neighbors neighbours of the intention to have controlled fires. - It is good practice to create fire breaks prior to a fire, especially if houses are surrounded by veld or bush area. SIZA has compiled a Guide to the Law and Best Practice in Fire Safety on Farms document, which can be viewed here: https://lnkd.in/dz_NbzNK #firesafety #SIZA #firesafetyguide #firefighting

These figures are from coastal bird counts. Bird counts carried out by bird protectionist organisations who have little interest in public health and safety and rely on government funding to exist. They have also carried out additional counts in urban areas but have so far refused to publish those results but simply say there have been dramatic increases. So the decision to give further protection with a view to reducing licenses which protect the public is based on flawed science with no actual factual basis to do so. And I fully suspect when a vulnerable person is seriously injured or worse while avoiding attacking gulls in an urban environment there will be a judicial review which will have shocking findings into how this new “guidance” which is essentially legislation has came about. Sad day for both birds and for public health pest control in Scotland.#naturescot#Gulls#health#safety#public#licensing#changes#science#risk#media

Rural Crime: Helping the farmers who feel vulnerable and isolated With few repercussions against criminals operating in rural areas, and the police not even attending scenes of rural crime, you can understand the frustration of the farmers. The farm industry likes to focus on security initiatives bla bla bla, without actually helping the farmers. I gave a presentation to the Wiltshire Rural Crime Forum and was told not to mention confrontation, why? Because we deal with confrontation totally different to the police advice of “locking yourself in the farm building and calling the police”, who may or may not even respond. FFS chaps, let’s give the farmers more support from understanding how criminals operate, to farm security measures, to actually dealing with confrontation and giving the farmers confidence. All these so called initiatives from the #nfu #cla #nrcu and the worse one the #nrcn don’t actually focus on helping the farmers themselves. Lots of initiatives about recovering stolen property but nothing to stop the property being stolen in the first place. Horse bolting and shutting the barn door mentality being played out by the farming industry. #fcn #nfu #ufu #nfumutual #cla #yfa #farminsurance #rcu #nrcu #nrcn #farmers #farming
