Biolearning, the Master's Degree in Biodigital Architecture (www biodigitalarchitecture com - UIC Barcelona)… Pure Natural Intelligence, structural, material and energy efficiency, which we see as sustainable and beautiful (learning in the Master Program how to apply it with digital tools to architecture and design): side view and front view, with a double level arranged in staggered pattern, as a quincunx mosaic of the two levels, as in chessboard order. #architecture #urbanism #artificialintelligence #digitalfabrication #computationaldesign #parametricdesign #newmaterials #bioarchitecture #biodigital #archinect #archdaily #arch2o #biodigitalarchitecture #biodigitaldesign #biotechnology #biolearning #biodigitalmaster #digital #architecturemasters #sustainabledesign #parametricarchitecture #digitalarchitecture #design #aiarchitecture

This shows us that we could be so much further in reuse if it wasn’t made so difficult. For decades there have been a tendency to cast doubt and suspicion on the very sensible reuse of building parts. Part of this is psychology: human aversion to waste + deeming parts separated from their previous locations as waste = suspicious material. Then this self inflicted problem was attempted to remedy by more and more consulting and testing, which made the reuse parts too expensive compared to their virgin competitors. This suited just fine to the industry of new parts. When it became obvious that we have to start reusing building parts (climate, nature, natural resouces, energy etc.), this was attempted by adding legislation on top of the original problems. ”The industry” i.e. those manufacturing new products from virgin materials (plus some recycled material added for that nice shade of green) is the stongest, practically only lobby when the requirements on reuse parts are written to the legislation. Surprise (not): the requirements are next to impossible to fulfill, so the prices of reuse parts stay high and it’s business as usual again.
📣In parallel to the Swedish pilot project, KTH School of Architecture has initiated an in-depth mapping of historical examples of reuse with concrete elements in Sweden. So far, we have identified around ten completed projects that date as far back as the 1980s. ➡By interviewing the initiators, architects, and other key people involved in these projects we will compile valuable experiences and insights about the reuse process that can contribute to scaling up from isolated projects to a change in the building system at a system level. 📌ReCreate project team from Sweden met with Gunnar Sandbaum who was the initiator and project manager of a pioneering reuse project in the city of Linköping that was completed in 2001. Exploring a Dystopian Future🌍 Delve into a visionary journey through the realms of climate change in our Master of Architecture thesis. This graph unveils a trajectory of potential dystopian scenarios, showcasing the profound impact of climate change on our Earth. From past markers to future projections, this visual narrative paints a stark picture of what lies ahead if we fail to address the escalating environmental crisis. It's a call to action, a plea to acknowledge the urgent need for change.
