Will you please consider donating some of your blood? This is one of the ways you can literally help others by giving some of YOU! While you are here why not consider becoming a Los Gatos Lion at the same time? Here are some other reasons why blood donations are so critical: Saving Lives: Donated blood is used in surgeries, cancer treatments, chronic illnesses, and traumatic injuries. One donation can save up to three lives, making blood drives essential in maintaining a stable blood supply. Emergency Preparedness: Blood drives help ensure that blood is available when unexpected events occur, such as natural disasters, accidents, or mass casualties, where the demand for blood can surge suddenly. Supporting Patients with Chronic Conditions: Individuals with conditions like sickle cell disease, hemophilia, or severe anemia often require regular blood transfusions. Blood drives provide a consistent supply for these ongoing needs. Filling the Supply Gap: Blood has a limited shelf life—red cells can be stored for 42 days, platelets for just five days—so continuous donations are needed to replenish the supply and meet the needs of hospitals and clinics. Community Engagement: Blood drives bring communities together for a common cause, fostering a sense of solidarity and support. They also raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and encourage more people to become regular donors. Advancing Medical Treatments: Blood donations are also used in research to develop new treatments for various medical conditions, helping to advance medicine and improve patient care.

Every year for my birthday, I pick a foundation to raise money for all month long. This year I selected a foundation that is near and dear to me. I am raising money for the American Kidney Fund. 37 million Americans have kidney disease. That is 1 in 7 people. Kidney disease is a top 10 leading cause of death in the U.S. and it's an illness with no warning signs and low awareness. Far too many people know nothing about kidney disease — until it's too late. Those who live with this isolating illness can tell you how it touches every area of their lives from both their psychological and physical health, their jobs, and their relationships. AKF is the only organization ensuring that every patient has access to the health care and support they need, at every phase of their disease. When people are concerned about their risk or receive a kidney disease diagnosis, the AKF is one of the first places they turn. They consider it their obligation to provide the best tools and information to help people reduce their risk of getting kidney disease and enable those already with it to live longer and healthier lives. Did you know: 🫘More than 101,000 people on the transplant list a year NEED a kidney and only 17,000 people receive one each year. 🫘The average kidney waitlist for a deceased donor is 3-5 years. 🫘A living donor kidney can function and improve quality of life anywhere between 12-20 years while a deceased kidney can enhance quality of life for 8-12 years. 🫘A living donor kidney can eliminate the need for any dialysis. 🫘A living donor kidney has a quicker recovery time. 🫘A living donor kidney functions immediately after transplant while a deceased donor kidney may take several days to weeks to function normally. You do not have to be biologically related to be a living donor. 🫘People well up and into their 70’s can be living kidney donors. As of 2019, the oldest person to donate a kidney was 84 (he donated to his 72-year-old neighbor). Thank you for reading, supporting, and to those that have already helped by donating!! Love you all!! https://lnkd.in/eqwg74v5

Your donations directly support our hospitals in Basildon, Broomfield and Southend. With an NHS that stretches so far, it’s your donations that mean we can go that extra mile for our patients and staff. Here’s some of those that your donations make the biggest impact on: 🧸 Children and babies – our ward playrooms are fully funded by your donations. That includes toys, sensory room equipment and activities to cheer everyone up 🙂 Patients living with dementia - charitable funds mean that we can do more; whether that's providing dementia-friendly signage on wards to promote independence or even refurbishing an entire ward to promote feelings of comfort, calm and happy times from the past 😴 Exhausted parents – anyone that’s experienced the worry of a child in hospital will know they won’t want to leave their bedside. Recliner chairs mean that mums and dads have somewhere to rest their heads 💁♀️ Enhancements for patients undergoing cancer treatment - if it's beyond the provision of the NHS and we can fund something to make the experience a better one, we'll do what we can. Your donations have funded cooling caps to reduce hairloss and specialist support to provide guidance on preparing for the emotional and physical changes brought on by chemotherapy treatment 💜 Bereaved parents – at the most heart-breaking of times, it’s your donations that fund private and comfortable rooms where our NHS teams can provide the specific care and support needed We support all areas of our hospitals – together we can go further. Experienced Drilling Superintendent / Lead Drilling Engineer / Sr. Drilling Engineer immediately available
Got a spare couple of hours? Instead of wasting it sitting at home scratching your nether regions while doom scrolling on your phone, why not give blood? The UK is always looking for new donors, not just for blood but also plasma, platelets and bone marrow. They especially need more donations from those in ethnic minorities. For example, people with African or Afro-Caribbean heritage are ten times more likely to have the blood type needed to treat sickle cell anaemia. If you are having joint replacement surgery, you can even donate the bone from the joint being removed! So instead of doom scrolling on your phone (which you can still do while donating, if you want....), why not make a real difference to someone today? Sign up and donate blood! BTW, if you've had Malaria and thought that you couldn't give blood, the rules have changed so now you should be able to. #NHS #DONATEBLOOD #DONATEBONEMARROW #MAKEADIFFERENCE You could also join the NHS's "Future Health" project, making a difference to the long term health of the UK and possibly your own health. https://lnkd.in/e94GAW9P

World Organ Donation Day is observed every year on August 13th to raise awareness about the importance of organ donation and to encourage people to become organ donors. The day serves as a reminder of the critical need for organ transplants, which can save lives and improve the quality of life for recipients suffering from serious health conditions. The main objectives of World Organ Donation Day include: 1. **Raising Awareness:** Educating the public about the need for organ donors, the process of organ donation, and how it can save lives. 2. **Encouraging Donations:** Motivating people to pledge to donate their organs after death and to discuss their decision with family members. 3. **Dispel Myths:** Addressing and correcting common misconceptions and fears about organ donation. 4. **Celebrating Donors:** Honoring those who have donated their organs and the families who have made the decision to donate their loved ones' organs. By promoting organ donation, this day helps to increase the number of donors worldwide, reducing the waiting list for those in need of transplants.

I am advocating for Huntington’s disease which impacted my family. I tested negative, and now wish to do what I can to help educate the wider community through links to videos, information and some lived experience.
#huntingtonsdisease Part 13 As I have said in previous posts, I have been #raisingawareness of #huntingtonsdisease throughout Australia (and some globally) for the past couple of years or so, through talking of my family's experience with Huntington's disease. I have been going alone with this so I could be free to research and work without restrictions from any organisations or persons. I needed to speak for those I have lost to this disease. Raise awareness of this disease for my family. Educate those who knew nothing or little of the disease, and encourage existing families with the disease to not make the same mistakes as previous generations in ignoring it as best they can, seriously consider testing and to think of longer term consequences in any decision. Huntington's disease has no cure. It is genetic, rare, a neurological disease which all children born to a parent/parents who are at risk, tested positive or diagnosed with having inherited the disease, are also at risk, with a 50% chance of inheriting it. That is a very big percentage. In my research, I have learned how families are still struggling with the knowledge and diagnosis of this disease. I have learned of the still intact secrecy within the family unit. In other words, the stigma of yesteryear is still there today, and while some families are making changes in hope it will end in present generation, there are many who continue just hoping that cure will be found soon. What I am now asking for, is help in the way of raising money for further research into Huntington's disease. I am asking #you, if you can possibly consider making a donation towards this cruel disease, it would be very much appreciated. I am supplying a link here, which will take you directly to the website to make donations. You will need to specify you want your money to go to Huntington's disease research, to ensure it goes to that. You will be asked for your name and contact details for taxable purposes. And, If you like, you can make the donation on my behalf. Huntington's Disease Network of Australia (HDNA) have provided me with this link, and I personally, have made a donation to ensure it all goes through as I wanted it to. So, I know it will do for you. I am not in a habit of asking people to make a donation, but this is important to me. As I have said in a previous post, I am not a movie star or a celebrity, so I am unable to reach the people as they can, to gain bigger audiences in hope of big donations, but I hope I can make some kind of impression this way. I have approached government in any way I could. Basically, I have possibly made a nuisance of myself, because my family suffered. I have suffered. And I do not want future generations to suffer as we have, and all other families presently dealing with this disease. With thanks, Kathy Langley https://lnkd.in/gjuRs4NF DONATION LINK

I was disheartened to see responses of few people around when they were asked for help for donating blood for one of my relatives. Almost 95% of the people in society still hesitate to donate blood and this could be due lack of awareness or fear. Donating blood is a noble act that can have a significant impact on the lives of others. It's a simple and impactful way to contribute to your community's health and well-being. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the global average of blood donation is around 32 donations per 1,000 people. This means that, on average, only about 3.2% of the population donates blood. Efforts to educate and encourage people for donating blood is crucial and extremely needed. It's natural to feel some fear or anxiety about donating blood, especially if it's first time. However, it's important to remember that blood donation is a safe and relatively painless process. Each donation can potentially save up to three lives, is a powerful way to make a positive impact on others' lives. If you're feeling fearful, it might help to learn more about the donation process and talk to others who have donated before. Because every donation can help patients in need and can indeed save lives! Don’t you think so?? Nonetheless, some of my Org people came forward for help. Great thanks to them! The intention is just to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and encourage more people to donate blood, so next time you say YES to the people in need. 😊

So my (sadly) last year on the HIPS board happens to correspond with our (amazing!) 30th anniversary, and it's the year that we have the opportunity to buy our home! HIPS has been tirelessly providing non-judgmental, human-centered, and respectful harm reduction services in DC for 30 years, through multiple complex crises. Our services, advocacy, and community work has been led by incredible, devoted, and passionate staff dedicated to not only serving individuals but also to challenging structural barriers, stigma, discrimination, racism, homophobia, transphobia, and just straight up hate. As just a snapshot, in 2023 HIPS provided: 5,252 safer smoking kits 4,377 condoms 434,714 syringe exchanges 163 Vaccinations 2,000+ clinical services 10,951 naloxone kits 59 overdose reversals 154 overdose response trainings 3,232 fentanyl testing strips 15,350 mobile services We've had to move offices multiple times, often chased out by the rising cost of rent in gentrifying neighborhoods. Buying our home guarantees that we can continue our work without that fear. We're raising our down payment: anything you can give helps us, no matter how small a donation. Or, if you can't donate, help us share! https://gofund.me/aff6a3fa

🩸 "Give Blood, Save Life" 🩸 On June 14th, 2024, S Residences joyously celebrated Blood Donation Day with a heartfelt event that underscored our commitment to community health and compassion. The day commenced with a ceremonial cake cutting, symbolizing our dedication to saving lives through blood donation. I'm delighted to share that approximately 25 individuals from our community generously participated by donating blood. Their selfless acts exemplify the spirit of unity and care that defines S Residences. Why is blood donation crucial? 1. Life-Saving Impact: Blood donation is critical in emergencies like accidents, surgeries, and medical treatments. Each donation can save up to three lives, directly impacting those in urgent need. 2. Continuous Need: There's a constant demand for blood due to medical conditions such as cancer, anemia, and emergencies. Regular donations ensure hospitals maintain an adequate supply to meet these ongoing needs. 3. Community Support: Events like our Blood Donation Day unite us in a common cause. They demonstrate our collective commitment to supporting one another and making a positive impact on society. 4. Health Benefits: Donating blood isn't just beneficial to recipients; it also promotes the donor's health by reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases and stimulating the production of new blood cells. This celebration at S Residences reaffirms our belief in giving back and promoting well-being within our community. I extend my deepest gratitude to all who participated as donors, volunteers, and supporters. Your contributions have made a meaningful difference in the lives of many. Let's continue to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation and inspire others to join us in this life-saving endeavor.
