The Public Money Pod is always great, but for any contacts here who are focused on policy implementation and program delivery, you might find this episode especially helpful. Mentally, I did a sort of "𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦" to connect the risk reduction principles of homelessness programs to those of my own field. Thinking through budget realities, namely federal transfers, to sustain effective programming is universal for state and local governments. https://lnkd.in/esBaKF-6 #disasterriskreduction

Today is #NationalVoterRegistrationDay! Sharing this short video and post from NAEH about empowering people experiencing homelessness to be heard in the upcoming election!
Today is #NationalVoterRegistrationDay! Together, we have the power to help people experiencing homelessness make their voices heard in the election – not just in the presidential election, but in your state and local elections as well. Because no one will be more affected by homelessness and affordable housing policies than the people we serve, and they deserve to have a say. If you’ve been working to help your clients register, we thank you for your effort. And if you haven’t, we want to make sure you know about non-partisan resources that make the process easier than you might think. 📉 Earlier today, a portion of the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Appropriations proposed a $2.3 billion dollar funding cut to U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development programs in FY25. 🏡 This includes several key domestic programs that impact public housing, such as housing choice vouchers, tribal housing, eviction prevention grants, project-based rental assistance, and homelessness assistance grants. 🗣 The time to #SpeakUpForHome is NOW! Please contact your legislators to oppose these drastic, harmful cuts today! 📨 Thanks for our friends at National Low Income Housing Coalition, anyone can visit https://p2a.co/nliqghj to send an email to Congress urging them to invest in affordable homes in FY25. ---------- #advocate #advocacy #federal #housing #arizona #funding #budget #fundingcuts #affordablehousing #fy25 #congress #publichousing #tribalhousing #evictionprevention #rentalassistance #homeless #homelessness #homelessnessassistance #housingvouchers #fundingforhousing #federalfunding

Why should we all care about ending homelessness? We asked this question to our incredible volunteers and supporters such as Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù and Will Poulter. A future free from homelessness is possible but we need politicians to step up. How can we do this? Sign our letter telling political leaders they must commit to ending all forms of homelessness, ahead of the next election. https://bit.ly/48xMOJ0

The LA Times reported California spent big on homelessness — hundreds of millions of dollars — but where's it all going? We see it every day — homelessness in CA is up 6% in 2023 and 53% since 2013. It’s time for greater accountability. We need to do what works, and what works is implementing more rigorous oversight over homeless assistance programs to ensure that our taxpayer dollars are spent on programs that actually produce results. It's a travesty 300,000+ people are homeless across the UK. That's why we have launched an Emmaus manifesto demanding urgent #ActionOnHomelessness, to tackle the root causes and promote high-quality support in the face of record demand. Our six core principles say no to unscrupulous supported housing providers, no to criminalisations, no to no-fault evictions and no to short-term investment. We say yes to more affordable homes and to lived experience being at the heart of decision-making. We demand a united approach across government departments, more compassion. Homelessness is a travesty but I'm proud to be part of a team committed to driving action and impact for individuals and communities. Further developments are in plan ahead of the General Election and beyond as we work to make sure voices are heard. The 2024 General Election provides a momentous opportunity to end homelessness for good. Our Action On Homelessness manifesto sets out what Emmaus is demanding and how we will hold the next government to account. Join our fight for lasting change: https://lnkd.in/ev7yAYqv

Homelessness>> In the UK, policies must draw upon the successes from elsewhere, derive from clear, non-judgmental understanding, and enable the implementation of evidence-based guidelines, as a matter of urgency. At an international level there is also an urgent need for our leaders to rise to the challenges and find peaceful solutions to the many armed conflicts that are promoting homelessness and having devastating effects on individuals’ lives. https://lnkd.in/d_XFGbY

This week’s City of Grants Pass, Oregon v. Johnson hearing marked the beginning of Supreme Court case proceedings with life-changing consequences for those we serve—by potentially allowing for unhoused people to be fined or arrested for sleeping outside. We must stand firm in our commitment to protecting our vulnerable unhoused neighbors. Research shows that the solution to the homelessness crisis is creating more affordable housing, not criminalizing homelessness. As we wait for an official ruling to be issued, be sure to read National Alliance to End Homelessness’ brief comparing criminalization as an approach to the homeless crisis with increased investment in homelessness services. Spoiler alert: strengthening homelessness services is the best path towards reaching functional zero on homelessness.
NEW: Analysis from the Alliance's Homelessness Research Institute compares how data-backed solutions to homelessness compare in effectiveness to punitive approaches (tickets, fines, arrests, etc.), in light of #JohnsonVGrantsPass. https://buff.ly/3xPYFWc
