🚗🌱👥 Belgian Group of Ten unanimous on mobility!

🚦 The mobility situation in our country is the focus of a joint opinion of employers’ and employees’ organisations within the National Labour Council and the Central Business Council, to which employers and trade unions are strongly committed together! This statement provides important guidelines for future policy makers and highlights urgent actions for more sustainable mobility.
🟡 Remember that the 'gilets jaunes' revolt in France started with an increase in fuel prices. People on low incomes face many challenges in dealing with mobility issues, especially in rural areas. The story therefore distinguishes between the north and south of the country. Joe Bloggs values his old car, despite its environmental impact, because it gives him mobility. The average person is also sceptical about car-pooling and might consider it a useful alternative after a positive experience. This illustrates the complexity of mobility issues for low-income people and the need for accessible solutions in an increasingly digital society. The Green Deal on climate change adds to this.
🛣️ With better governance and solution-oriented policies for citizens, workers, and enterprises as a priority, employers' and workers' organisations want to work together to meet the challenges of effective mobility in support of social and economic development.
👥 The creation of efficient public transport, the promotion of multimodal hubs, and the integration of shared mobility are just some of the many actions to promote modal shift.
🌍 In addition, the social partners aim for mobility that contributes to climate and environmental goals, with a focus on avoiding and shortening journeys and using the most efficient means of transport and energy sources.
Both employers and employees have a key role to play in promoting sustainable mobility. By cooperating and pooling travel, supported by policies and investment in quality transport options, they can reduce barriers and improve labour market mobility.
This advice to politicians in the run-up to the elections is a valuable source of knowledge and insight based on the expertise of all stakeholders. Let us promote this integrated approach, respecting social consultation and encouraging participation at all levels. Mobility will be one of the central themes of future policy.
ℹ️ Together, let's build sustainable mobility for the future! #mobility #sustainability #socialpartners #belgium 🚀🌿🤝
