As the Director of Business Development and Marketing for Lake Behavioral Hospital, my job, I believe, is to always think about who I need to know and what I need to do to create awareness of our wonderful hospital. Well, Saturdays and Sundays are marketing days just as any other day of the week when one thinks that way. On the way to my haircut, today, Saturday, I took a slow, roundabout trip to my stylist and dropped off brochures at businesses that I would not have time to do during the week. It took about an hour, but I met restaurant owners who talked about stress, a tire company worker who gladly took our brochures because he has mental illness in his family and a car dealer who discussed, at length, his own personal journey with depression. When I got to the hair salon, my stylist Maria Romita (pictured here), had an article laminated on her wall about how transformative a haircut or style can be. She knows where I work and we began talking about how alopecia (an autoimmune hair loss condition), hair thinning and just the idea of how we see ourselves physically are all so important to our mental health. Maria began talking about the article and how people feel almost " magically transformed" and generally so much better when they leave her shop. She talked about self-care and coming to see her is one way to just feel better and cared for and valued. When I left and thought about my morning trip and visit with Maria, it reminded me that everyone has a story and their own ideas about mental health based on their own experiences and interests. Mental health is everywhere and so, then, is mental illness. I am so glad to work in a place where staff understand mental health and listen to those stories to create real mental wellness and recovery. Oh, and hey, Maria, thanks for posting that article for everyone to see and for believing that mental health matters and thanks for a great hair cut!

This time of the year may fill you with excitement and joy, but it can also be the catalyst for more stress. According to a recent poll from the American Psychiatric Association, nearly 1 in 3 people expects to be more stressed this holiday season than last year. This is due to a number of reasons including: inevitable interactions amongst family, the financial stress of buying gifts or traveling, hosting an event, mood changes from the lack of sunlight, and more. If you know or feel like something is off, chances are you may be experiencing more stress than you realize. 🎄 Navigating Mental Health During the Festive Season 🎄 Hello, everyone! As Christmas approaches, let's talk about something important - mental health. While it's a time of joy for many, it can also bring unique challenges. Here's what to look out for and how to cope: 1️⃣ Festive Stress: Planning, shopping, and socializing can be overwhelming. Remember to take breaks and manage expectations (Sansone & Sansone, 2011). 2️⃣ Loneliness: If you're feeling isolated this season, you're not alone. Reach out, connect with community events, or volunteer to uplift your spirits (Hawkley & Cacioppo, 2010). 3️⃣ Grief: If you're missing someone, acknowledge your feelings. Share memories, start a new tradition, or find a support group to help navigate your loss (Edwards & Pang, 2010). 4️⃣ Substance Use: Celebrations often mean more alcohol. Be mindful of your intake and don't hesitate to seek help if you're struggling (Makela, et al., 2010). 5️⃣ Routine Disruptions: Try to keep some normalcy in your sleep, exercise, and diet to maintain balance (Conner & Norman, 2005). 💌 This season, let's spread awareness and support each other. Your mental well-being is important. Reach out, talk about your feelings, and let's make this festive season a bit brighter for everyone! #MentalHealth #ChristmasWellbeing #FestiveSeason #SupportEachOther 🎅🧠💚 https://lnkd.in/g9YFteKe

In a time where mental health concerns are increasingly prevalent, the importance of destigmatizing these issues and fostering supportive environments cannot be overstated. We must amplify these conversations and cultivate spaces where everyone feels heard, valued, and empowered to prioritize their mental wellness. By dismantling the barriers to seeking help and fostering inclusive environments, we can collectively pave the way for healing and growth. #MentalHealth #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth #Wellbeing

The first month of the New Year is a good time to take stock of our lives… besides considering shedding a few pounds, how about shedding some old attitudes? adding some humble pie to the mix in making our lives better. addressing our own mental well-being and doing something to be a positive force in our community. Anita Everett writes… Focusing on self-care is important because we play a part in each other’s mental wellness. It’s up to each of us to be a lifeline, sharing in a commitment to care for ourselves and those around us. Think of it like the safety instructions we receive on an airplane. We are told to put on our own oxygen mask first before we can be of help to others. The same philosophy applies to taking care of our own needs, including mental health needs, before being able to be fully present, and supportive of others, in our lives. When it comes to mental wellness, small actions can have a big impact. Do something kind for others: hold the door open for someone; give a compliment; pay someone else’s kindness forward. See how these small acts boost your mental health and have the added bonus of likely making a positive impact on others. More importantly, check in on loved ones and ask them about how they’re doing. Remember, taking care of yourself is not selfish; it is necessary for you to be able to take care of others and lead a fulfilling life. By encouraging others and being there for someone when they need us, we instill hope in ourselves and those around us. #sheddingpounds #attitudeadjustment #communityservice #humblepie #TakingStock #LifeChangingOpportunity #newyear #january

Today, I want to shift our focus from the usual tips and tricks of cleaning to something equally important—mental health. It’s no secret that mental health challenges can make everyday tasks, including cleaning, feel daunting. The clutter and chaos can seem overwhelming, and the pressure to tidy up can add to the stress. This is where we, as cleaning professionals, step in—not just to clean spaces, but to understand and support. At Katharisma Cleaning, we believe in providing a nonjudgmental service that respects your space and pace. We recognize that sometimes, the greatest barrier to cleanliness isn’t the task itself, but the mental load it represents. Our team is trained to offer flexible and empathetic solutions that accommodate your needs, making your environment a source of comfort, not stress. And while we’re here to help make your spaces serene and uplifting, we also encourage anyone struggling with mental health to seek professional help. It’s okay not to be okay, and getting support is a sign of strength. Together, let’s create clean spaces that nurture mental wellbeing. Remember, a clean space can be a clear mind, but it’s always okay to ask for help—both in cleaning and in taking care of your mental health. 🌟 Stay strong, stay supported, and let’s keep pushing for mental wellness in every aspect of our lives. #MentalHealthAwareness #CleaningTips #SupportSystem

CA turned Mindset Coach who will make you fall in love with Money I Career Coach I Business Mentor I Bestselling Author
Dog Therapy for Mental Health at Corporates! Are you kidding me?! Like Seriously! I was approached by a service provider who wants to sell "Dog Therapy" for Mental Health as a service. Just because Mental Health is an emerging industry, my request to the business world is, please don't sell anything and everything in it's name! If you really want to sell Dog Cuddling at corporates, please call it Recreation, and not Therapy unless it is backed by science! Mental Health is a very sensitive subject, and having visited that space myself for good 2 years, and overcome it's challenges, I can tell you firsthand, that it is a lot of work! It takes a lot of Conscious Efforts, Resilience, Support, Guidance, Perseverance and a lot more to change the neurological patterns in the mind. Hugging or cuddling a Dog will not resolve the root cause of Stress, Anxiety and Depression! Root cause Analysis and effective tools and techniques are the only way to cure this problem. Let us be a responsible community and create a safe space for those struggling with Mental Health instead of belittling it with mindless solutions, which is looking for a problem! An urgent appeal to Corporates, to take responsibility in spotting early signs of Mental Health issues within the organisation. We need to sensitize people across the board to spot these signs and lend a helping hand, an ear and the right support. Please train your people right, so there is safe space for everyone and please don't fall for these gimmicks! Mental health is not a joke and needs serious attention! #Mentalhealth #mentalhealthawareness #mentalhealthmatters
