Listed below are my top observations on the subject: • Lifeguarding is More Than a Pastime: Seek individuals who understand that lifeguarding is not just an opportunity to perfect their tan lines. An excellent candidate is aware that people's safety depends on their attentiveness. • The Role Demands Quick Decisions: The poolside is no place for indecisiveness. The right candidate should be able to take swift and effective actions when necessary. • Training is Never Enough: Continuous training is mandatory to ensure lifeguards stay at the top of their game. Encourage and facilitate regular practice sessions. Making a splash with the right team of lifeguards can elevate your aquatics program. Keep these pointers in mind, and you can take your pick among the best for your team. After all, their whistle blow can mean the difference between calm waters and a turbulent tide. Hyper-inflated job titles in your job post will make it a thinly-disguised attempts to make regular jobs sound powerful and exciting. It's like making an online dating profile with fake photos and expecting no one to notice in real life. Titles can not overshadow substance. Let’s talk about what I like to call the “foot-in-the door” technique for low-time pilots (this can be applicable to entry-level Flight Attendants as well). There are many jobs in aviation, where the employer would like to hire someone with aviation knowledge to fill the role. If you have ground school completed, pilot certificate in hand, aviation-related education, or other aviation-related experience, you might qualify. I have hired a few low-time pilots into these positions over the years. They continued to build time on the side by instructing or other part-time flying and when the time was right, they moved on to flying full-time. On their resume, it was a good look that they had worked in an aviation environment. Working in a non-crew position in aviation, they were well positioned as their flight hours reached the limits needed for their “goal job,” they either… 1) Had a foot in the door at an operator who hired them to fly… OR… 2) Were a more desirable hire (it’s competitive out there!) because of their time spent working for an aviation-related company, in combination with their flying time. Research non-crew jobs at 135 operators: · Charter Coordinator / Scheduling Coordinator · Flight Follower · Charter Sales · Crew Logistics Coordinator · Aviation Recruiter · Training Coordinator / Ground School Instructor · Marketing Manager Research non-crew jobs at FBO’s: · Customer Service Representative or Hospitality Coordinator · Line Service Technician · Operations Manager · Ramp Agent · Safety Officer · Dispatch Coordinator · Janitorial/Maintenance Staff · Fuel Farm Operator Pro-tips: · Search LinkedIn jobs using titles listed above. · These positions are also good starting places for entry-level Flight Attendants who are looking to gain experience and a "foot-in-the-door." As a popular LinkedIn aviation coach says "work is work."
