"Whoa. Deep breath. I get it. Americans (myself included) have a cultural allergy to being taken advantage of. We do not want to get screwed. Additionally, we suck at rest, restoration, and holidays. And it’s clear why – capitalism. No wonder workers are afraid to take time off! And no wonder workplaces are unpracticed at treating workers like fallible human beings who cannot simply keep going like automatons. Over the next five weeks, one-by-one, I will write an essay each on the following: 1. American PTO, generally 2. Sick Leave 3. Holidays 4. Vacation, and 5. Bereavement" Read the rest of essay 15 here - Spring Break Series: America’s Weird Relationship With Time Off https://lnkd.in/dBC27zht

In the current scenario, where people are debating on the 28 May holiday. What I found was that the holiday made no sense, company owners got confused if it was an off day for the government sector or all. Yes, when a notification says FOR ALL, it means for all including private sectors and the owners must obey whatever is mentioned in FOR ALL. It is not an option, it is an order by the official head of the state. Here, the fault is neither the owner who didn't get the point of announcing 28 May leave (found it irrelevant and troublesome) nor the fault employees who were looking forward to getting a break from a tough job routine. It is the fault of those officials who for no important reason (such as a smog outbreak, heat wave, or spread of an uncontrollable disease) announced a sudden holiday in memory of an Atomic Test, which has significance in history that we were entitled to the list of countries having Atomic power but that was never meant to be counted as a public holiday. Many other days hold major importance and can be counted as public holidays but honestly, this one was making no sense.
