We are proud to be a part of HCA Healthcare , which recently announced that the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund, a 501(c)3 public charity that provides emergency funds to colleagues when significant hardships arise due to illness, injury, natural disasters or other difficult situations, has surpassed $100 million in grants awarded since its founding in 2005. In 2023 alone, more than $11.4 million in assistance was distributed to help more than 3,700 HCA Healthcare colleagues and families. Each year, more than 35,000 donors contribute to the HCA Healthcare Hope Fund to help their peers facing financial hardships. The HCA Healthcare Foundation also contributes more than $4 million a year to the fund by matching colleague donations. We are thankful for the generosity of colleagues across our larger HCA Healthcare network who have helped the Hope Fund reach this remarkable milestone. 🌟Tales from the ledger - Give a little, Change a lot.... End of financial year is usually the time when tax deductible donations to charities increase, which is great, they need them to keep providing their valuable services. But you don't always have to donate money. As a small business owner, I understand the importance of community and the power of coming together. So today, I'm proud to say that I supported the Red Cross and my community by donating plasma. I have donated blood before, but this time I decided to donate plasma, it takes a little longer to do, but I think it is worth it. I met a lovely volunteer called Diana, and was very thankful to Kasia and the other nurses that were involved. I invite you to join me in making a difference. If you are someone who is eligible to donate and would like to start, the link to book a donation is in the first comment. Here’s why your donation matters: ❤️ Emergency Relief: 1 in 3 people will need blood or blood products in their lifetime 💉 Lifesaving Blood Donations: Australia needs more than 29,000 donations every week to meet demand. A single blood donation can save up to 3 lives. Let's show the strength of our community and make a difference today. Click the link in the first comment to book a donation. 💉Plasma is used in over 18 life-changing plasma treatments. #RedCross #CommunitySupport #MakeADifference #SmallBusinessCares #FirstClassAccounts #TalesFromTheLedger

Thoughts on NHS trusts' income? John Mohan and David Clifford from University of Southampton called for discussion about how best to mitigate the spatial differences they found in the charitable and private patient income of NHS trusts: "From one perspective, charitable donations may be regarded as a private matter for donors and recipients, which cannot readily be influenced by public policy. Indeed, donations may be motivated by geographical proximity and personal ties, rather than being necessarily informed by an assessment of relative healthcare need. Nevertheless, it may be appropriate to be sensitive to the spatial distribution of charitable income received by individual NHS trusts when considering how best to distribute charitable income received by the NHS through national—rather than local—fundraising, such as through NHS Charities Together (the national organization of the principal NHS charities). In any case, if effective responses are to be developed to spatial differences in the private financial resources that support the NHS, continuing to monitor both the charitable and private patient income of individual NHS trusts is a priority for future empirical work". PMM would welcome 1000-word debate article responses to their article, which was published online first at the end of February, for consideration of publication. #CountdownToOneHundred - On September 15, 2024 Hendrick Health will celebrate a century of caring for our community. To help commemorate this milestone - I will be counting down and sharing 10 things that make Hendrick special. #3 - Our Community Support and Local Reinvestment. Every time I get to sit down with a doctor that we are trying to recruit to the Big Country, I introduce myself with this sentence "Hi, I'm Brad Benham, and I help lead our Foundation. Hendrick is a faith-based, nonprofit hospital that is still profitable. This means two things for you: One - We have an outstanding community of supporters who give back philanthropically because they believe in the good works that happen here. And Two - Whatever profit we may make is not sent off to shareholders through dividends or plundered to go fund a hospital in another state. Every philanthropic and profitable dollar is reinvested back into new equipment, into raises to help retain our nurses and staff and into strategic investments and strategic hirers (maybe like you) that can help us better care for this community." Donated dollars stay here to help local people. In this tough healthcare environment, when there is a margin - that margin is reinvested right back here. As a local citizen and patient, I am thankful to the 100+ years of donors whose generosity built (and continue to build) this hospital system and for the 100+ years of leaders who strategically reinvested to recruit great doctors, to keep the best nurses and staff and to purchase and maintain state-of-the-art equipment to better serve me and my family. #HendrickOneHundred #Countdown #LocalReinvestment #Nonprofit #charity #hendrick100

"...20% of survey respondents received a medical bill they couldn't afford" ***affordability is such a nebulous term often based on perception*** "...76% of those unable to afford their bill received financial relief ***this seems to reinforce the idea that financial aid is readily available in healthcare, if the patient inquire/follow-up/ask/apply*** More than half of all hospitals provide charity care through transparent Patient Financial Assistance Programs (FAP's). Virtually all non-profit hospitals provide financial assistance and charity write-offs for patient care. #Medicalbills #PatientFinancialAssistance #JAMA #MedicalSurvey #AffordabilityInHealthcare #CharityCare
