We can consider Switzerland as one of the territories that have preserved as much as possible at least the medieval appearance of nature, and therefore soil microbiology. We can agree with the conclusion in article that a high-quality approach to management will give an effect on soils that is close to natural. This is justified by the fact that the approach takes into account the terrain and its natural processes as much as possible. Clustering has always been the basis of the agricultural complex, but the intensification of land use and the low level of economic quality have caused irreparable damage in the medium term. The efficiency of the entire ecosystem with a cluster approach will increase only when the efficiency of management in clusters with extensive production exceeds the positive contribution from natural processes. But there is a ceiling to the possibilities, since the growth of microbiology in a specific soil with a specific structure cannot give more than what it gives. and here we run into legislative restrictions and cannot, for example, increase the thickness of the fertile layer except by adding fertile soil and humus on top of the topography. However, clustering allows land adjacent to extensively cultivated land to be improved naturally, slowly but permanently.

Phys.org: Mosaic grassland landscapes are the most beneficial in terms of ecosystem services, Swiss study finds When compared with #forestecosystems, grasslands landscapes receive far less attention in many ways — research, funding, protection, among others. However, this article sheds light on the importance and many benefits “grassland landscapes” offer in terms of — provisioning, regulatory, and cultural services among others. To combat global environment, climate, and development objectives — restoring, conserving, and protecting existing grasslands should be part of long-term strategy to have natural ecosystems protected. #grasslands

S&P Global Commodity Insights, a leading independent provider of insights for the commodities, energy, and energy transition markets, has been selected by Conservation International on behalf of the Government of #Kenya to develop Kenya's #REDD+ registry. https://lnkd.in/dkngQq_z The initiative, a first in Africa, will support Kenya's climate goals and contribute to the broader carbon-reduction community and marketplace. It represents a key milestone in establishing an enabling environment for mobilizing #climatefinance towards implementing the Forestry Sector's NDC goals, and aligns with Kenya's #ClimateChangeAct.

🌊 Fascinating study reveals the significant impact of marine protected areas (MPAs) on both conservation efforts and the well-being of local and Indigenous communities in the Mesoamerican Reef. A few highlights: 🔹 MPAs benefit local communities by reaching fish population carrying capacity, creating a spillover effect into areas without fishing restrictions. 🔹 Well-enforced MPAs in the Caribbean led to a 33% increase in household income and a reduced likelihood of child malnutrition. 🔹 These protected zones showed 27% more fish biomass compared to open-access zones, with higher commercial value species seeing a 35% increase. 🔹 Building effective MPAs involves community involvement and clear communication to ensure successful conservation outcomes. What are your thoughts on the dual benefits of MPAs for marine life and local communities? Share your perspective below! 🐠🌴 https://lnkd.in/ede7VKCF

Outside the #WaterCommunity, not many realize that #FreshwaterEcosystems are declining at staggering rates, and so much has already been lost. Yet, these ecosystems are resilient and can bounce back, and many #rivers, #lakes and other #wetlands still harbor rich #biodiversity and provide invaluable #EcosystemsServices which sustain #nature, #people and #economies. At #CBD #COP16, we're eagerly awaiting the launch of a new IUCN Report with guidance for designing and managing protected and conserved areas to support #InlandWaterEcosystems. Can't wait? Check the Executive Summary below. The #FreshwaterChallenge is a country-led initiative to accelerate and scale freshwater outcomes through the protection and restoration of our rivers, lakes, peatlands, and other wetlands.

#WorldWetlandsDay A feature story in Rolling Stone magazine about impacts of the sugar industry in Florida’s Everglades cites a carbon assessment conducted by Winrock’s Ecosystem Services team. Winrock’s Ecosystem Services team works with The Everglades Foundation to assess and measure carbon’s impact, protect wildlife, and restore mangroves as well as hydrological flows. https://lnkd.in/eXsX7eYA #WetlandsDay #Wetlands #Ecosystem #Environment #ClimateSolutions #ClimateChange #WildlifeProtection #Sustainability

World Environment Day 2024 focuses on land restoration, halting desertification and building drought resilience. The Karoo is a large expanse of arid and semi-arid land in South Africa, known for its biodiversity. My masters research (almost 15 years ago) considered the impact of livestock grazing on vegetation cover and biodiversity in the Karoo, and highlighted the difficulties faced in restoring degraded land. During the process of my research, I developed an enduring fascination with the exploration of arid areas in Africa. Combatting desertification and reversing land degradation, especially in biodiversity-sensitive areas like drylands, present complex challenges for scientists. We now understand that successful land restoration requires an approach that uses knowledge, drive and ambition across all generations. Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration. Read my article below on how dryland conservation efforts in Africa are helping to combat desertification, improve climate and drought resilience, and restore biodiversity. #WorldEnvironmentDay #conservation #desertification #sustainablelandmanagement #sdgs #sustainabledevelopmentgoals #environment

https://lnkd.in/e_i7TXsf The study focuses on #protected #areas. "Moving forward, the study’s co-authors call for more and rigorous studies that look at the impact of conservation action versus inaction for a wider range of conservation interventions, such as those that look at the effectiveness of #pollution control, #climatechange adaptation, and the #sustainable #use of species, and in more countries."

There's a new #research that emphasizes the power of community-led forest governance over simplistic #tree #planting for effective forest restoration. Local decision-making and formalized community involvement are vital for achieving #carbon sequestration, biodiversity, and rural livelihoods simultaneously. We need to shift towards decentralized #forest policies to empower communities for #sustainable forest management. Read more : https://bit.ly/46Kyf3O
