🔬 Blending Faith and the Scientific Method: My Journey to Transformational Preaching 🔬 Growing up as the son of a scientist, I was immersed in the scientific method from an early age. This unique background naturally attracted me to the work of Donald A. McGavran, the father of the church growth movement, who revolutionized how the church approaches its mission through strategic thinking and metrics. In a church context, numbers matter. Conner Prairie is reimagining storytelling and community engagement surrounding the Lenape people and their traditions, thanks to a $2.5 million grant from Lilly Endowment. The living history museum in Fishers recently received the grant through Lilly Endowment’s Religion and Cultural Institutions Initiative. The grant will support the Lenape Connection & Kinship on the White River project, which aims to amplify the voices of the Lenape people, honoring their cultural heritage, history and traditions. In a new study published in Nature Communications, research shows that indigenous communities saw the promise of peaches and played a pivotal role in their eventual presence throughout the southeastern US—long before there was a Peach State. Co-author of the study, executive director of the Georgia Museum of Natural History and Distinguished Research Professor at UGA Victor Thompson has said, “Understanding the path that the introduction of species, such as peach trees, took through colonization and the role that Indigenous people and their long-term relationship with the environment played in shaping these histories demonstrates the importance of these events, people and processes to what becomes a broader American history.” 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eJnPSFTG

Golden Rule Day: Laudato Si' & The Golden Rule The lead volunteers for the Arts, Environment, Healthcare, Peace, RISE (Religion Interfaith and Spirituality for the Earth), and Social Justice sector get together to discuss the intersectionality of Compassion through different issues affecting humanity. The conversation is centered around the Laudato Si, an encyclical letter that Pope Francis published in May 2015. It focuses on care for the natural environment and all people, as well as broader questions of the relationship between God, humans, and the Earth. The encyclical’s subtitle, “Care for Our Common Home,” reinforces these key themes. See how it’s all interconnected through the Golden Rule.
