POLESTAR 3 – FIRST NEW ZEALAND DRIVE It’s stylish, quick, eco-friendly and loaded with tech…that’s the quick rundown on Polestar 3; now see how it drives. We first saw Polestar 3 in Copenhagen 19 months ago, so this drive has been a long time coming. Was it worth the wait? The 3 was impressive enough as a static display, but on the move - and on New Zealand roads, it is stunning. The styling makes it look almost compact, which it is definitely not. Just take the wheelbase, which is close to three metres, which makes this a ridiculously roomy five-seater. 85% of Polestar 3 is recyclable, and much of the interior also uses recycled materials, so it delivers on the environmental front…just in case the EV argument isn’t enough for you. On that note, the battery is 111kWh, giving the ‘3’ a WLTP range of 610km. The long delay between unveiling and driving was mostly down to just how high-tech the 3 is. Even after that long wait, it’s still ahead of the game, with AI and a high-performance NVIDIA centralised core computer running the show. Some may argue that it could have been too clever for its own good. What cannot be disputed is that Polestar 3 delivers on the road. It looks like a Hot Wheels car, and, if you want, it will go like one: fast and quiet. We drove the Performance version, which, courtesy of two motors, boasts 380kW and 910Nm. The 0-100km/h time of 4.7 seconds isn’t a headline grabber, but the driving experience is. Polestar 3 delivers a perfect mix of refinement and dynamics, courtesy of adaptive air suspension and torque vectoring rear axle that combine to make that car feel much smaller and nimbler than a 2.7-tonne SUV should be allowed to. Big day, people. Not only is it the release day of Polestar 4, now available to order in Europe and Australia. It's also the day that I get to flex my acting chops, as alluded to in my previous post, sharing the spotlight with Nicole DeLay. But I think Polestar 4, our fastest car to date, deserves the headline. Whether or not I deserve the Oscar (I do) is still up for debate. I’m on (with Faye here) the demo trail again! 🚘 🚙 🚗 I can’t believe it’s been 3 years since I ventured into my EV⚡️journey and I’m now looking for my next chapter 📖 Today, Carl Chambers at Listers Group was really helpful in sourcing me this top spec new I-Pace 400 Sport for a real world test. I believe one of the first luxury SUV EV to the market. It’s only had a relatively minor facelift from the launch version, but I feel still stands up aesthetically against the more recent entrants. Solihull to Exeter, picking up Faye Bosworth en route, and back was a simple enough 400ish mile test. I had some concerns that the slightly reduced range over my Polestar 2 would be an issue, but reality was I just stopped a little sooner and topped up a little more than previous. The slower charging speed meant an extra 10-15 mins, but not the end of the world today, but would this cause Joanna Lees and the kids a meltdown on our Cornwall trip 🫣 One thing that has changed dramatically in 3 years is finding charge points on route and the ease of access to them. Before I’d have umpteen apps and difficulty logging in and even getting started. Today, I just tapped my Allstar Business Solutions Electric 1 card on the GRIDSERVE terminal and went. Allstar will collate all the charges and using some clever tech, reimburse my accurate expenses. Winner! Over the last few weeks I’ve demo’d the BMW Group IX 40 MSport, Audi UK Q8 eTron and the Fisker Ocean. All have their pros and cons, but arguably not a bad choice between them. Which one do I go for….or do I just hold tight whilst I wait for Matt Hawkins and Sam Goodman to sort the upcoming Polestar 4? 🤔 epyx Ltd. FLEETCOR
