🗞️ Journalists trust me. Being invited to comment is a pleasure and a privilege. I do my best to bring evidence-based points to help the reader in a practical and positive way. I also like throwing in "what if"** type ideas some people might think ridiculous*. With this platform I'm given why wouldn't I attempt to stimulate new thinking and provoke change? 😄 Happy to help People Management magazine staff writer Mahalia M. this week. *The world is ridiculous. Imagine building HS2 to shave 20 minutes off the journey between Birmingham and London when we don't have childcare infrastructure to allow millions of parents to do their jobs? ** Here's one such that didn't make the cut. Mahalia: What are the main barriers to increasing the availability of wraparound child-care? Jessica: The availability of trained staff to play and look after children. What would be brilliant is if universities had links with all local primary schools and could offer training to students to be play leaders or in-home helpers. Imagine an evergreen supply of bright young things coming to care for our children after school until we came home? If mandatory community service for young people came into action wouldn’t this be a brilliant win-win? #workingparents #childcare #journorequest

Struggling with staffing shortages? You're not alone. 🕑 Recent conversations with several schools have highlighted a common and pressing challenge: finding emergency relief cover for practitioners, teachers, and assistants. The numbers paint a stark picture - a recent UK survey indicates that 68% of schools face difficulties securing substitute staff, leading to drastic measures like sending students home. Short-staffing is more than a logistical headache; it impacts our children's learning continuity and well-being. 📚💔 If the prospect of accessing safe, reliable relief staff at a moment's notice could relieve this pressure, isn't it worth exploring together? Immediate assistance can bridge the gap, preventing disruption in our children's education journey. 🌉🎓 I'm keen to discuss sustainable solutions that support our schools through these challenges. Connect with me, and let's craft a plan that ensures every classroom has the support it needs. Principal Consultant @ Leaders in Care | Connecting outstanding Children's Managers with market-leading providers across the country✍🏻 | 02045188991
📢 Staying Informed: Essential for Effective Recruitment in Child Residential Care As a specialist in children's residential recruitment at Leaders in Care, I believe staying updated with the latest industry developments is crucial. A recent report by UCL researchers and ECPAT UK reveals significant concerns about the increased risk of exploitation faced by lone children seeking asylum. These children, previously housed in Home Office child hotels, faced heightened vulnerabilities, including trafficking and abuse. The report highlights that these child hotels, operational between 2021 and January 2024, resulted in 440 children going missing, with many still unaccounted for. It stresses the urgent need for better safeguarding measures and specialised support to protect these young individuals. Additionally, the closure of these hotels has led to some children being incorrectly assessed as adults and placed in adult accommodations, where they face even greater risks. Understanding these critical issues helps me identify and recruit the best leaders who can address these challenges and ensure the safety and well-being of vulnerable children. By regularly engaging with industry reports and updates, I can add significant value to my recruitment processes and contribute meaningfully to the sector. This work is not just a profession for me; it’s a passion. I am dedicated to making a positive impact in the lives of these children by ensuring they have the best possible care and protection. 🔗 [Read the Full Article](https://lnkd.in/e-tpC5Rd) #ChildProtection #AsylumSeekers #ResidentialCare #LeadersInCare #StayInformed #IndustryUpdates #registeredmanagers #recruitment

Thankful to lead a team that is deeply committed to fostering educational opportunities and closing the achievement gap for youth in our Juvenile Rehabilitation (JR) facilities. Education is a powerful tool that can transform lives, break cycles of incarceration, and provide a pathway to success. Our Regional Education Program Administrators, Adam Haizlip and Kolanye Bykoff, have been spearheading efforts to enhance the educational experience for scholars across Washington state in all of our community facilities. Through listening sessions, focus groups, and surveys, they are actively engaging with youth to understand their unique needs, challenges, and aspirations. We firmly believe that every young person deserves access to quality education, regardless of their circumstances. By investing in their academic and vocational development, we empower them with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to pursue promising futures and contribute positively to their communities. Highlights of our initiatives include: - Conducting classroom observations to support teachers and enhance student engagement. - Aligning policies and practices with firsthand insights from educators and students. - Facilitating collaborations with local organizations and leaders to provide holistic learning opportunities. - Strengthening relationships with facility administrators, staff, and students to foster a supportive educational environment. - Exploring vocational training opportunities, such as FareStart placements and Work-Based Learning programs. Education is a fundamental right, and by investing in the educational journeys of justice-involved youth, we not only nurture their potential but also contribute to the well-being of our communities. #EducationEquity #JuvenileJustice #YouthDevelopment #OpportunityGap #Empowerment
